After Monday’s disastrous debut of Lone Star, there has been talk that FOX might scrap the series after just one episode. Now, it looks like that won’t happen.
In Lone Star, Robert Allen (James Wolk), is leading a double life so that he and his father can pull off cons both big and small. Things get especially complicated when Robert feels personally connected to his marks and starts to regret what he’s doing. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The show premiered to a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.1 million viewers. It ranked a distant fourth in both categories and lost 69% of House’s lead-in audience in the demo.
Network execs are understandably confused by the series’ lack of viewers. After all, they gave the show a great lead-in, lots of promotion, and have a handsome and likable lead actor. FOX execs and many critics really like it too. The Washington Post called Lone Star “better than almost anything new this season,” while the New York Times said the show is “clever” and “endearing.”
According to NYMag, FOX isn’t throwing in the towel just yet. Lone Star is still in production, with the cast and crew working on episode six. FOX will keep the show on the air at least until this Monday. Their hope is that it will make some connection with viewers now that they’ve had a chance to sample the shows on the other networks.
At this point, any positive growth might be enough reason for them to keep it on the air another week. Unfortunately, they won’t see the DVR ratings for a couple weeks. Given the tough competition of the night, many people very likely recorded Lone Star to watch later.
Any way you look at it, the Lone Star’s ratings would have to come up a lot for it to be considered a moderate success. Even those that tuned in for the premiere may not bother to return, having already heard that the show is cancelled.
What do you think? Is Lone Star worth saving? Will you tune in, even though there’s a good chance it’ll be cancelled?

Keep this show! Ratings may be low but consider the DVR people like me who watch later. I loved it!
If you cancel Lonestar at least sell it to a network that will air it. Loved the first
episode even though i had to record it and watch it later because of timing
conflict. I would keep watching this show and I hope it doesn’t get cancelled
I would watch it no matter what network it is on.
By far the best show on TV right now, I can’t believe that they would pull if after 2 episodes. Why can’t you just give it a chance? Do you know how rare it is these days to find a show with such a unique story? the Actors are top notch and who doesn’t love a good Texas show!!! Please, give it a few months, don’t make me watch Dancing with the Stars….
“Lone Star” is riveting and quite captivating. Cunning — is another nice descriptive word. Other words that come to mind are ” titaliting, tasty, provactive, revealing and thrilling”. I’m horrified to think that “CANCELLING this series” is even under consideration. Here’s a good read on ‘new show’: http://galleryqui.wordpress.com/2010/09/28/lone-star-con-smarts/ It’s refreshingly grimy…an insight into modern day scams and the charming schemers that spear head them.
I have watched the first two episodes as they aired and I think the show is great. Great acting, character development and pacing. How can you develop an audience after just two episodes. Please FOX give this show a chance!
This show is great. I can’t believe they are thinking of canceling it and allowing other shallow shows to exist. It is sad that the majority of TV viewers need to be fed silly reality fodder. This is a deep story line with twist and turns not to mention fantastic acting. It will be a complete shame and lack of artistic integrity if Fox cancels this show.
great show! good morality tale
My wife and I enjoy this show–complex with interesting characters and several plot lines. I am afraid that this show–like the Sarah Chronicles before it–will be canceled because it requires you to pay attention and follow most every episode to be fully intelligible. The attention span of Americans is short. Very sad!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE cancel this show! I can’t even believe it’s airing tonight! James Wolk is great but he’s much better in You Again and he had better potential as a movie star. I’d much rather FOX re-aired last Tuesday’s great season premiere of Glee than we endure another hour of this! I’m watching Gossip Girl instead and I will every Monday until they find a replacement for this!
Great show that both my & me watch. Please, do not cancel.
Finally, a show I can enjoy. Fox will make a mistake by cancelling this show.
Give it a chance.
I hope it stays on! I thought the pilot was great, and really enjoyed the characters’ development and backstory. Let it stay Fox!
LOVED this show!!! FOX must promote it!!!! James Wolk plays charismatic character–love him!! Yes, get rid of reality tv. Everyone must spread the word to watch this show. so that it does not get canceled. Great way to spend an hour. Best show of the season.
great show…..do not cancel….get rid of reality T V
I couldn’t believe it when someone told me they were possibly canceling this show. The first episode was intense. I felt like I had just watched an entire season. The characters are well presented and there are so many angles to the plot. I’m going to spread the word today and make sure this doesn’t get scrapped like my last favorite show ‘Kings’.
