What’s in store for Lucifer? Recently, executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich discussed the future of the FOX TV series, Deadline reports.
The drama follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) as he abandons his throne in Hell for a life in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Lauren German, D. B. Woodside, Tricia Helfer, Rachael Harris, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garcia, and Scarlett Estevez.
Shortly after FOX renewed the series for a third season, it was announced the network shortened Lucifer‘s season two episode count from 22 to 18 episodes. At WonderCon this past weekend, Henderson clarified that the four episodes cut from season two will air as stand-alone episodes next season:
What happened was, we initially broke an 18-episode season, and towards the end of working on that season, we were told that we had 22 episodes, which is awesome, but a little bit of a trick.”
Modrovich later added:
We were worried that we were going to have to sort of pad our arc that we had so carefully, lovingly constructed, but they actually said instead, let’s do four stand-alone episodes that can go anywhere. At first we went, ‘What? We’re a serialized show—that’s bananas.’ But we’ve had so much fun thinking about shows that we love, like X-Files, and some of the stand-alone episodes were our favorites.”
And what’s in store for these stand-alone episodes? Henderson teased:
They’re all different, and they’re all super weird, and we were sort of given permission to go a little crazy. I think they didn’t expect us to go as crazy as we did. … We’ve got an episode that’s much more sort of a romp; we’ve got an episode that’s a Twilight Zone-y kind of thing—like dark, and at times it almost feels like a play.”
What do you think? Do you watch Lucifer? Are you excited for the supersized season three?
I just love to watch Lucifer. Hope they don’t cancel it. I know there will be a lot of up set viewers. Lucifer is phenomenal
I like Lucifer, hope they don’t cancel it. Sometimes I wonder how do they determine if the show is worth another season, because some shows have a huge dedicated population following every week and it still gets axed.
The best show ever, with a phenomenal cast! I agree with all the other comments and want to add that I’d like for Lucifer and Chloe to end up together but I don’t see how that would be possible.
I’m so exited can’t wait I hope time flys I’ll be waiting impatiently for Lucifer to return and I hope he’ll be renewed for season 4 also. Thanks for the great show..Keep up the good work for lucifers show…Pauline8eFTN
Lucifer ended the season too abruptly. I don’t recall hearing that the season ended. With Grimm and bones ending their shows, Fox needed to keep Lucifer. Love the show, can’t wait for next season.
Can’t wait, Never miss!
I never miss and can’t wait to see the story continue. Awesome!!
YES! I am so excited. LUCIFER is exactly what keeps me hanging onto FOX. Smart choice for keeping this show. Especially with giving the viewers what they want…MORE “LUCIFER”O:-)

Probably one of my top five current favorite series. Well written, not predictable, and with interesting characters– pretty much what 90% of shows aren’t! Can’t wait!
