CBS made some difficult decisions when it came to cancellations this season. MacGyver, All Rise, The Unicorn, and NCIS: New Orleans have ended or will end this month, and Kelly Kahl, the president of CBS Entertainment, spoke about what went into the decisions to cancel all four shows, per Deadline.
MacGyver and NCIS: New Orleans (which airs its finale this weekend) have both aired on CBS for several seasons, and fans were surprised when the news broke about their cancellations. Kahl said the following:
“Every year you evaluate what is making the strongest statement for your schedule and what gives you the best circulation, what will bring you the most numbers of viewers. You ask that question for pretty much every show every year, how can we make the schedule as strong as we can in the fall, and that leads to some tough decisions. MacGyver has been an excellent show for us, New Orleans was an excellent show for us. But sometime shows hit the end of their cycle and we have to, in some cases, say goodbye.”
As for All Rise and The Unicorn, both aired for two seasons on the network. Kahl said the following about their cancellations:
“We creatively love both shows, it’s literally a numbers game on the schedule, and it’s a number game when it typically comes to getting a renewal. I think these shows were not living up to the potential in terms of an audience that we hoped to see in their respective time slots.”
What do you think? Did you want to watch more of these four TV shows on CBS? Which cancellation surprised you or upset you the most?
I really enjoy All Rise and NCIS New Orleans. CBS decision to cancel is a MISTAKE. You need to cancel. NCIS and NCIS LA. Those shows have definitely outlived their substance. All Rise is a good show. NCIS NO is also a good show. Y’all need to rethink your decision on these shows.
I hate All Rise was canceled. I never missed an episode and you have so few female leads. Excellent program. This is sad!
I loved NCIS NO and the Unicorn. I enjoyed All Rise too. I feel networks never give series a chance anymore and these long pauses during seasons only hurt the series.
I’m surprised about ALL RISE. My husband & I have watched all episodes & are really disappointed.
Most of my network TV viewing is on CBS, All Rise, NCIS/NO are among my favorites. NCIS/NO Is the only NCIS I like, the others I do not care to spend my time watching. I will be spending more time watching my fire stick.
NCIS & MacGyver these are 2 of your BEST action shows! All Rise as well!!!
I agree. All Rise has only had two seasons. I will likely stop watching CBS. They seem to cancel the best tv series/shows.
I absolutely loved MacGyver and All Rise. I’m so disappointed that they got cancelled: ( I don’t understand why they didn’t just move these shows to Paramount+. It sounds like these shows were doing well so why cancel them?
In my opinion, McGyver and NCIS NO did not run their course. Both very enjoyable and entertaining. Good storylines and adventure. Oh, I guess that’s the problem. Ugh
Why are you canceling All Rise? Your explanation is insufficient; lacking a real reason.
It is a great show and the best thing on Monday evenings. You need to re-evaluate and reconsider putting it back on! My main reason for watching CBS!
As I posted in another comment, we will likely stop watching CBS totally.
I liked All Rise
Those all are great shows **** you CBS!
All Rise is one of the best shows on television right now. My husband and I really enjoy it. Every time we find a series that we like CBS always cancels it. It’s clean, non violent and just an all around good series. We love the characters. Why does CBS always cancel these shows without feedback from the fans first.
We are likely going to boycott CBS. If people post they are not watching CBS and actually follow through, they will maybe listen to the fans instead of sloughing them off.
Will greatly miss ALL RISE – a great show on its own, plus Ms. Missick is gorgeous!
Rianna Williams
NCIS: Los Angeles is a distant 3rd in the NCIS family. They are cartoonist. NCIS: New Orleans is a joy due to the talent and location. Keep NO, ditch LA!
Right on target.
I so agree.
I totally agree Plus ALL RISE is the best law show on now
Considering that shows had greatly reduced number of episodes and viewers never knew when a new episode would air, most shows should have been renewed for another season. Am especially upset about All Rise, but this was not a normal year and normal criteria should not have applied.
Agreed, not a good year to look at viewer statistics
