New this year on ABC, The Mayor TV show centers on a musician who stages a political campaign to boost his career and ends up winning his election in an upset. Last season, the Alphabet Network introduced four comedies and cancelled two of them, so it seems like this sitcom starts out with more or less even odds at success. Will The Mayor be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
An ABC comedy series from creator Jeremy Bronson, The Mayor stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, Yvette Nicole Brown, and David Spade. After years of drudgery, hip-hop artist Courtney Rose (Hall) decides he needs a publicity stunt to create some buzz around his fledgling music career. To that end, he runs for mayor of his hometown of Fort Grey, California and scores a surprise win. While Courtney’s intelligence and creativity lend themselves well to his new position, this is his first full-time occupation, so he needs a little help growing into the role. Fortunately, he gets it from his mom, Dina (Brown), friends TK (Spears) and Jermaine (Jones), and Chief of Staff, Valentina Barella (Michele). **See update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/13 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Mayor TV series on ABC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
1/5 update: ABC has cancelled The Mayor before season one finished airing, but the studio hasn’t given up. Details here.
Please keep The Mayor on. It’s smart, funny, has a great cast and even a gentle lesson each week. Courtney and his best friends are hilarious! Time mom and Val are also. I’m loving this show.
