Streaming on the Netflix subscription service, Messiah stars Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, Fares Landoulsi, and Wil Traval. The show chronicles the modern world’s reaction to a man who first appears in the Middle East. Al-Massih (Dehbi) creates a groundswell of international followers around him when he claims to be the eschatological return of ‘Isa (Jesus). Has he been sent by God or, is he a dangerous fraud who’s bent on dismantling the world’s geopolitical order?.
The first season of 10 episodes was released on January 1st. While the show’s season finale left the door open for a second season, Netflix has apparently decided not to continue the story. Actor Wil Traval, who plays Will Mathers in the series, shared the cancellation news via Instagram.
What do you think? Do you like the Messiah TV show? Would you have watched season two of this Netflix series?
This was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a very long time. So disappointing!!!!
As I have just finished the series I quickly came to the internet to find out when season 2 would be available, sadly I am seeing that there will be no season 2. It is a shame, I have been touched by this series and from what I’ve read so have others. Netflix should reconsider.
I thought it was one of the more thought-provoking shows around. But I’m not sure we have that many people left who enjoy having their thoughts provoked.
Yes I loved the first season. Thought it was different, original, had many different perspectives. For all types of man made religions (made you think) and for those who are non religious.
Lots of different opinions for sure !
Wish there would have been a second season.
So disappointed to hear that ‘Messiah’ has been scrapped. I don’t understand what Netflix is thinking. This was a timely and well performed show. I can’t imagine why such a program wasn’t worth another season. In a time when more and more ‘trash’ programming seems to dominate every network, it was refreshing to find something worth watching.
Yes, we liked this thoughtful show and would have definitely watched another season.
This was such a special story…I guess too spiritual for Netflix…hoping another streaming service will pick it up. I’ve never ever felt so strongly that a show should continue as I have with Messiah…. Netflix must have never peeked at the Facebook fan pages….people from all over the world, of every belief, loved this show….It brought us together….
I thought the show was very good! Netflix is turning into Fox.
Very very disappointed
There has never been anything like it. Very sad indeed! This is why Netflix keeps Losing memberships. Whoever made that call should be fired! Someone quick…
Pitch it to Hulu. Messiah was gripping, fresh, and Brilliantly cast.
Shame on You Netflix! For Shame!!
I would gladly drop Netflix and sign on to HULU if they pick up this excellent series where Netflix dropped the ball.
There NEEDS to be a season 2! To be honest, I was surprised and impressed season 1 was allowed to be made since it shows the world (and very powerful entities in this world) as it really is. An in depth study of geopolitics, organized religions and the diversity within them, the dangers of closed minds determined to only see and twist facts to “prove” their own preconceived perceptions. Right down to how individuals fall victim to public opinions and their own egos despite having pure intentions originally. This show IS IMPORTANT. It has touched the hearts and minds of… Read more »
Thank God. (no pun intended)
I, surprisingly, thought it was awful.
I’m very surprised by these reviews. I, too, thought it was terrible. I kept waiting for the story to unfold…at the end of season one was just a big, fat Nothing Burger! I’m want those precious hours of my life back.
I hate when they do that! Terrible ending for 1 season
Me, too! I think I’ll NOT watch any new series until there have been at least two seasons. It’s so disappointing to get wrapped up in a plot only to have the rug pulled out from under me. shame on Netflix!
I watched all 10 episodes of Messiah and am very disappointed that there will be no second season.
I know how much easier it is to create suspense than to resolve it satisfactorily. However I would have liked to see what the script writers had in mind.
What a shame. It was very well written and produced with excellent performances. I hope Netflix will reconsider and continue with production. This show is timely and relevant in a world gone mad.
