Streaming on the Netflix subscription service, Messiah stars Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, Fares Landoulsi, and Wil Traval. The show chronicles the modern world’s reaction to a man who first appears in the Middle East. Al-Massih (Dehbi) creates a groundswell of international followers around him when he claims to be the eschatological return of ‘Isa (Jesus). Has he been sent by God or, is he a dangerous fraud who’s bent on dismantling the world’s geopolitical order?.
The first season of 10 episodes was released on January 1st. While the show’s season finale left the door open for a second season, Netflix has apparently decided not to continue the story. Actor Wil Traval, who plays Will Mathers in the series, shared the cancellation news via Instagram.
What do you think? Do you like the Messiah TV show? Would you have watched season two of this Netflix series?
This was a very thought-provoking and relevant series. The way it captures how people “follow” social media trends in today’s world is brilliant. Please continue it.
It’s interesting the Lucifer franchise gets a fifth season on Netflix, yet a truly thought provoking, brilliantly written show that explores the idea of a true Messiah walking among us gets canceled! Shame on you Netflix–a disappointment of a media outlet.
Just finished season one I so want a season two please netflix change your mind
This is very disappointing. It’s unclear from this limited story why Netflix made the decision, whether the pandemic situation was the main reason or if something else was the cause. In any case, I’m ticked off at Netflix for abandoning a series that was very well-done and dramatically challenging, though somewhat erratic from episode to episode. They continue to produce a lot of garbage along with a few excellent shows. To drop a show of such quality is inexcusable.
It’s ridiculous that they canceled Messiah on Netflix. It was wonderful and needs to be continued… I am an Interfaith minister so I get the message… Did they really cancel it because there was not enough viewership or were there Geo-political/ religious reasons for canceling the Messiah?
I’m very sorry to hear that Netflix has decided to cancel Messiah. I thought the show exceptionally well done, and very compelling. I was hooked by the first episode, binge watched all 10, and have gone back and viewed them again. I would be very grateful if Netflix were to change its mind. If someone puts together a petition, I’ll certainly sign it.
I finally checked out the series on Netflix and couldn’t stop watching. Amazingly like a feature screenplay I wrote called “Belief”.
“A mystical man is born of a miracle birth and grows up on a mission to bring peace through world leaders, despite a Christian agency trying to stop him because they suspect he’s the anti-Christ.”

Oh no! This was a great show and I was looking forward to Season 2.
Very sad news.
Cancelling the second season is a mistake. Just picked up on this series as just joined Netflix. Could not stop watching from beginning to end of first season, and then that is it. Told my wife is like reading a good book you just cannot put down. Bummer!!! Why in the world would Netflix cancel a show that has it all???
Messiah was a piece de resistance. With an extraordinary plot line, being out of the ordinary, but still not giving too much away, it was totally riveting viewing. The cast all played their rolls superbly and allowed you to maintain a level of intrigue throughout the viewing experience. And this was a viewing experience. Netflix should really review this decison and allow the public to have more of a say in what production continuations they pursue.
The forces that can be brought to bear on bringing this Messiah project back to life need to be activated ASAP. Petition, letter writing, phone calls, what will it take? If you have a couduit for this, please let all interested parties know.
Please someone start a petition and get this series renewed. I’m so disappointed that Netflix has chosen to cancel Messiah. Please Netflix change your mind. Maybe get another network to pick it up like Amazon.
So sad that second season is cancelled. It was an amazing show. Hope that Netflix change its decision or some other streaming channel sponsor it
Messiah is a tour de force and totally addictive viewing. Well written, well acted, intelligent and thought provoking. How on earth could Netflix cancel this and renew so many other, less worthy shows? Season Two could not have come quick enough for this one!
It is and was one of the best series Netflix has ever streamed. It is incomprehensible to me, that Netflix make such a mistake and stopp the making the second season of this Messiah Netflix series. This film is simply indescribably good. All the actors, the story, the way the film is presented and of course the main actor Medhi Dehbi are so convincing. Am of the opinion that Netflix should have a different system to rate a film as a viewer. Just a “thumbs up” is not enough to rate this Kind of films and this Messiah Netflix Serie.
