Just what the doctor ordered. The Peacock Network has issued its first full-season pickup for a new drama. NBC has expanded its season one order for its New Amsterdam TV show to 22 episodes. The series premiered on September 25, 2018, and episode three just aired last night, but so far, it has made a strong showing in the Nielsen ratings.
An NBC medical drama, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. It centers on Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold), a caring and charming physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, under-funded and under-appreciated New Amsterdam Hospital.

My wife and I both think this is the best new series on television. If the network cancels this one they are a bunch of idiots. This show is truly inspiring and the scripts are great. Also aired some of the most genuinely moving scenes of any show I’ve ever watched. Got my sister-in-law hooked on it by telling her how great it is and binge-watching the first recorded six episodes with her when she stayed with us for a couple of days recently. Ryan Eggold is excellent and so are the others.
Love this new show, the characters are amazing!! Hope it stays for many years! Also watch Chicago Med but this one is even better! Please do not cancel!!
Kathryn, RN of 44 years. typically don’t watch a lot of medical shows, but watched this one because I loved Ryan in the Blacklist and the Redemption one as well. Great that he has his own show and doing a wonderful acting job, very authentic. Love his smile through thick and thin and the issues brought out in the show.
Love this show. It shows the medical profession in a different light . Other shows like Chicago Medical brings up how taking underserved patients ruin their profits. This shows highlights the moral and ethical issues that need to be addressed. Characters are great and Ryan certainly plays his part excellent.
Love this show. Enthralling story lines and great characters! Love all the cast, especially Ryan Eggold! Huge fan of medical dramas and this ranks high on my list. I love Tuesday nights and look forward to every episode!
New Amsterdam is my favorite show of the season and each episode gets better and better! I want to know these people, hang out, have lunch. It’s a great show!
Love this show!!!! People helping and supporting each other. Very interesting characters!!! Love Ryan!!
As a retired Director of Surgical Services in a county hospital, NEW AMSTERDAM is thoroughly authentic, poetic, and positively powerful. Keep on showing our fellow Americans the positive impact a County Hospital has in a city.
Love the show. I’m a nurse and generally watch medical shows( and critique them), but I really like this one. Good mix of positivity in with the ‘not so much’.
Another new variation on the hospital drama that has a distinct uniqueness.
The show is fantastic, I have been an RN for over 40 years, and really appreciate the realistic environment that the characters display. Ryan Eggold was my favorite character on The Black List, I stopped watching that program when his character was murdered…he was excellent ! And now is a caring, personable MD on New Amsterdam ! THANK YOU for choosing Mr Eggold for this important role !
Congradulations to the show and cast for such a fantastic start to the new season!! . And thank you NBC for giving the show a full season! LOVE THE SHOW!!
I love this show. I worked at Bellevue (Psychiatry), and was at grand rounds when Manheimer presented his book. I’m retired now, but this show makes me nostalgic.
So glad. I love this show
love the show
Love the show too and so happy it got the chance for more new episodes. Ryan Eggold is so talented and draws you into his character and the story. Rest of cast is working well into the storylines too.
