We don’t have to worry about the New Amsterdam TV show being cancelled for quite a while. NBC has already renewed the series for a fourth and a fifth season. But, how will this medical drama perform in the ratings? After a year-long pandemic, are viewers too weary of medical storylines? Stay tuned.
Airing on Tuesday nights, the New Amsterdam TV show stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold) is a caring physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, underfunded, and underappreciated New Amsterdam Medical Center. Those working with Goodwin include Dr. Lauren Bloom (Montgomery), the head of the ER; oncologist Dr. Helen Sharpe (Agyeman); cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Sims); psychiatrist Dr. Iggy Frome (Labine); and Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Kher), head of the Neurological Department. In season three, Max and his team face the daunting task of sustaining that optimism while dealing with a pandemic that exposed the gaping inequities in our health care. Max is no longer content to fix a broken system. He’s determined to tear it down and build something better.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
6/9 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season two of New Amsterdam on NBC averaged a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.10 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the New Amsterdam TV series on NBC? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for a fourth season already?
It is just like all the other doctors shows. I hate the direction the show is going. I HATE this show. You just loss another fan. The director said this show was going to be different from the other doctor shows on tv but you lied.
New Amsterdam sucks this season. It is just like all the shows. You have taken this show in the wrong direction. You just listed another fan.
Love the show but why do you put THE STUPID DRUMS playing in scenes. For Christ sakes its not stand up comedy.
I will no longer be watching “New Amsterdam” because the background music is so loud I am unable to hear the dialogue. It’s very irritating
I will no longer be watching the show they have gotten away from what the show is all about.
It’s really sad to see the turn this show has taken during this year. I understand the people responsible had good intentions but I thought for certain I’d find it was being cancelled. I guess like me everyone just keeps watching in the hope some of what the show used to be returns before all the characters and their stories are ruined. The first 2 seasons Max had all these great ideas that impressed everyone and solved problems. The show was attempting to bring up the problems in the healthcare industry and present innovative solutions along with people willing to… Read more »
New Amsterdam has become strangely polluted….like bait and switch tactics….did you change writers? I no longer celebrate the show….it has degenerated ….
I love new Amsterdam! So glad it’s being renewed. I get pe9ple are frustrated with political and racial views, but it’s everywhere.
The first two seasons were great. These new storylines trying to shove social justice down everyone’s throat are enough for me to want to call it quits. Can’t stand the show anymore. There is actually no reason for the show to even take place in a hospital anymore since they are apparently abandoning the medical side of the show which is why most viewers watched to being with. Since season is almost over, I am going to try to finish it, but if these garbage storylines continue into the new season, I won’t be watching.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. The whole point of the series was a focus on patients first. Now Max is running around implementing stupid ideas and ignoring needs the drs require to treat patients and all in the name of social justice! Max wouldn’t do that and it’s just stupid now. They’d better change it or nobody will watching.
We quit watching after the 2nd or 3rd episode of this season. When the police officers were replaced, in the ER dept., with out of work bouncers and the statement “that’s how you defund the police” was made, we decided right there we would no longer watch. Police officers are essential just as doctors are essential. For a tv show to make such an inflammatory statement was disrespectful and completely uncalled for. Sounds like the subsequent episodes have not gotten any better.
I echo the comment by many of those here. Was a very good show but with all the wokeness and social justice crap it has been removed from my DVR. Goodbye Max!
I always looked forward to this show, unfortunately, it’s just become another woke topic show. The writers for this show should be fired.
As much as I enjoyed this show, I absolutely can not watch it any more. Max personality borders on dumb and ridiculously grotesque.
I start watching episode of the latest season and turn it off about half way through…
Unfortunately, I can say the same about a few other shows I used to love.
What a pity…
Show has become tooo political actually over the top ridiculous
I have enjoyed New Amsterdam since beginning. Past several shows are nothing more than political formats, plus some intimate scenes and better left out. Not watching anymore.
Used to be my favorite, the last few episodes were not enjoyable. My husband won’t even watch anymore and I have forsed myself to watch as I hoped it would get better. Go back to handling medical issues.
Just loved the show the First and Second Season then what happened in third season???? It went off the rails sorry to say no more very controversial and disappointing. No longer look forward to watching it, I quit.
