What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the FOX television network, The Orville stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
Season One Ratings
The first season of The Orville averaged a 1.24 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.33 million viewers. Find out how The Orville stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
The Orville has been renewed for a second season which will debut on December 30, 2018. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Although it premiered with very good numbers, the first two episodes were scheduled to air after NFL double-headers on Sunday evenings, which is a great lead-in. The show regularly airs on Thursdays when it’s tougher to attract an audience. While the numbers saw a big drop in the new timeslot, they are still good enough to earn a second season on FOX. I’ll keep an eye on the Nielsens and update this page with any breaking developments. Subscribe for free alerts on any cancellation or renewal news regarding The Orville.

What do you think? Are you glad that The Orville TV show was renewed for a second season? How would you feel if FOX had cancelled this TV series, instead?
Undiluted C$#p!
Cancel.
OMG. Cancel this mess! It’s unwatchable!
Love it! I wasn’t expecting too much but it has surprised me a lot. PLEASE renew this show Fox.
Seth McFarlane’s shows are terrible, end of story. CANCEL!
How do I explain to my 8-year-old the disappointment this show has brought him. He hates it. Please cancel.
Teach him/her til change the channel og press the off button. Problem solved.
If they cancelled Firefly before it was even finished airing it’s first season then there’s no way this show sees another season. I had high hopes for this but it’s a total disaster. This reminds me a bit of a show called “The Lost World” that aired around 1999 on TNT. It was on a shoestring budget and very silly but it was extremely entertaining (cult following). It couldn’t even get enough money for the 4th season and had really weird scheduling. Anyway this isn’t even near as good and it’s on Fox. I don’t know what their aim is,… Read more »
I disliked Firefly, however as a BIG Trek fan this show is even better then StarTrek Disccovery
No dude, you are not BIG trek fan. Just go watch again and again Orville season 1 and let us ENJOY the Discovery Trek!
Lol the st people fighting at this…..frankly speaking the show has a char or it’s own. St isn’t about this it’s made up from st geeks.
I love this show, it’s the perfect mixture of a Star Trek vibe with Seth McFarlane comedy. It makes me happy. Please do not cancel this show.
Absolutely do NOT cancel this show. FOX has a history of not giving scifi shows a long-enough period of time to develop an audience. Quit making the same mistakes. Changing nights is also confusing,
Don’t cancel. Give it a chance Please!
This series needs to be renewed. I would be extremely disappointed in FOX TV if they didn’t renew it but then again they have dropped the ball ( and consequently lost respect from many sci fi fans) by cancelling other brilliantly written series such as Firefly. Please, Fox, do NOT DROP OR CANCEL THE ORVILLE!!! It is a CLASSIC which is unlike a lot of series out there!
The Orville is an awesome show. I enjoy it and if the ratings dropped so significantly why change the time frame? If you ask me this is Fox’s problem. Changing the time frame on a TV show the 3rd episode in doesn’t even give it enough time. If people prefer Sunday, then why not keep it on Sunday I was looking forward to this series. If Fix won’t keep it, someone else should take it because i look forward to seeing a Season 2, 3, 4 etc.
The Orville is a fabulous show. while it’s funnier than the regular Star Treck shows, it also has great plots. Loved both of the first two shows. The critics may not like it because they can’t figure out where it belongs. Too bad for them if they happen to be confused. I am 69 and have watched Star Treck tv shows and movies since I was 19. Give me more and more of this show.
I’m not usually one for comedy shows, but my husband and I really have enjoyed the show thus far and hope it comes back for season 2.
I normally don’t make a comment about a sitcom but the Orville is a great show! Brings back lots of memories of the Star Trek series but funnier and exciting at the same time. Great entertainment. Everyone loves sci-fi!!
Reena north please keep this enjoyed very show
I found the premier both interesting and funny. My husband and daughter both agreed that it was worth following. We don’t necessarily fall into your target range as our ages range for. 16 to to 60, maybe widen your scope.
