The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

I am extremely disappointed, I watched it on hulu and would really like to know what happens next, if the controversy is about racial issues or whether it is okay to make a show about what companies do than they shouldn’t do it anymore. If anything bollywood should pick it up and come out with their own show.
they should produce another season! :/
Only if they can profit from it. That’s the only reason people do things. Want it? Make it more profitable for them… (You do know the costs in television production, I assume?)
I want more outsourced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you don’t like it don’t watch it.
Um, that’s why it got canceled. Nobody watched it. Probably because jokes like a person’s name being used as a double entendre for male anatomy became trite by the time we got out of third grade…
Outsourced is a gr8 show…its truly hilariously funny…..i like all d cast of d show…specially d guptas caracter …he is so funny…really appreciate story line and d perfect cast selection…. I am extremely disappointed that it was cancelled. I hope that NBC will reconsider.
Okay seriously Mark you need to stop talking about two and a half men… it’s just plain weird! outsourced was a great show, in the ”community” calliber… hope they come to their sences about season 2.
It’s a funny show. Should have been granted a second season.
i tried watching this show and i didnt laugh at all, how is it suppose to be fun? i rather watch two and a half men…
SERIOUSLY DUDE. Since Charlie Sheen’s been gone, two and a half men sucked so much the only reason they’re not being removed is just because it has already been with us for a decade and we loved it (thanks to Charlie). But not anymore, Ashton cannot replace Charlie, ’nuff said. So stop pushing your two and a half men.
Now, Outsourced was something new, and I want NBC to rethink this. A lot of us here are supporting Outsourced!
Just noticed on your poll results that 96% of pollltakers did not want the show canceled. How does NBC justify killing a show with that kind of response from viewers? They must have been looking for a different demo and the people taking your poll are not in that demo. Results are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the show on. I think about the show every Thursday night at 9:30 when it used to be on and miss it very much. It was perfectly cast with very good writing, and in my opinion, was better than any other show on… Read more »
the show sucked just like all the other newbies sitcoms… if you want real sitcoms watch king of queens or two and a half men
I’m so sad to learn Outsourced is cancelled. I love this show! I rarely watch anything save for a couple of reality shows, but this one was the exception–mostly because it was exceptional! Please bring it back NBC! I haven’t laughed like that watching television in years. All the characters were endearing and perfectly cast.
I thought the show was hilarious. New, totally different than anything else as sitcoms go. Excellent casting and I loved the society contrast between the West and the Far East. That made for some very interesting stories. I loved it and watched it faithfully every week though I had to tape it because of the time. Very sorry to see it cancelled. To me, the rest of the sitcoms on TV are pretty much the same, American family life with crazy kids.
I cant get over Outsourced. I don’t watch TV very much due to shift work but my daughter will record it for me. I love everyone/ all characters. I am extremely disappointed that it was cancelled. I hope that NBC will reconsider.
Absolutely gutted. My first ever post on a website and I’ve been a website developer for over 20 years.
A maddise fan from oz.
I dont understand how anyone could have not enjoyed this? It has an addictive plot that consists of numerous underlying themes that contribute to its humour and plot. The cultural aspect, not only educational but also brings us much joy as it is used in the development of relationships. I personally feel that those who do not enjoy this sitcom have not understood the true motifs lying throughout the play and at the same time fail to enjoy the raw humour presented.
its just how television is these days, they fail to come up with new good sitcoms to enjoy, its good we still have sitcoms like two and a half men
We’re watching Outsourced the film and started talking about how much we loved loved LOVED the series. We were so very horribly disappointed with its cancellation . Couple that with the fact that they’re STILL airing the utterly stupid tripe called Community – why in the name of all that’s truly hilariously funny would you keep that half-hour of idiocy and drop Outsourced.
What can we do to get it back?!?!?
We have totally fallen in love with this show and characters! Networks always seem to do this with really really good multicultural shows just because no one else has done it before! HAVE FAITH IN YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC!! We do have a brain and want new writing that is not so formulaic, like hollywood tends to be!!! Lease have a heart and a BRAIN!!! BRING OUTSOURSED BACK!!!!
Is it really a mystery as to why this show was cancelled? I think the show got outsourced to China where it was able to be made EVEN more cheaply. Let’s make a comedy about the failing auto industry and call it “off-shored” like most of the extinct auto industry jobs. Comedy will ensue with such a light hearted topic in America I am sure:-) Read a book people.
EXCELLENT analogy!! I keep trying to think of a negative national situation that could be made into a sitcom.
How about “Terrorists” – a quirky show about those kooky people who fumbled and got into crazy predicaments while learning how to crash a plane into WTC. Oh, too much nerve touching? Well, people wo lose jobs to outsoutced workers feel the pain of the economic hit.
