Prodigal Son just aired its first season finale, so what’s next? Recently, creators Sam Sklaver and Chris Fedak spoke with Deadline about the future of the FOX TV show.
The thriller stars Tom Payne as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist whose father is a notorious serial killer. The cast also includes Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Halston Sage, and Keiko Agena.
Although FOX has not announced a season two renewal for Prodigal Son, creators Sam Sklaver and Chris Fedak do have ideas for another season. The two told Deadline they’d like to explore other characters’ perspectives:
But I also think we could see it through Jessica’s viewpoint. To a smaller extent, Gil’s. Everyone who is in Martin’s life, the idea at the core of this show is what if your father was a serial killer but I’m just as fascinated by the idea of what if your husband was a serial killer. So, I do think, we’re so blessed with Bellamy, Halston and Tom, this Whitly family, we can focus on so many aspects of them and we know that our actors can deliver with such high calibre, we can’t really do any wrong, hopefully.”
And fans don’t have to worry about Gil. Sklaver and Fedak want Lou Diamond Phillips back for season two:
From our perspective, that’s a story that we’re going to follow next season with regards to Lou. Lou Diamond Phillips is an amazing actor and national treasure, so we would be real dummies, not to bring him back for season two.”
What are the chances of a renewal from FOX? The two creators say they are “cautiously optimistic.”

Absolutely the best show on tv this year. Love the storyline, the actors are amazing and can’t wait to see what will happen next. The season finale was so unexpected and yet so perfect. Did someone get daddy’s murdering tendencies after all? You have to renew Prodigal Son. It would be a crime not to. Tom Payne and Michael Sheen are the perfect package.

Love love love it …. I try to make myself stack them up in the recorded so I can binge watch them but I simply CANT hold out to wait for more than 2 at a time … must bring it back !
Love Prodigal Son. Such a different approach to a series. Sure would like to see a season 2 especially leaving it where it ends, there’s a follow up that is certainly needed!
Yes please for season 2 of Prodigal Son. It’s the only show I get excited about watching every week. I plan my whole day around it so I had one hour of uninterrupted prodigal son time to myself.

Prodigal Son was easily the best new show if the season and one of the best overall. Why wouldn’t it be renewed?
Of all the Fox offerings, this one (and Deputy) have earned their way to a second season. Excellent writing, intriguing plot, top notch acting. Dont let us down!

Yes I love prodigal son and the whole cast. Lou Diamond Phillips is outstanding as he is in everything he does. Everyone on the show is Great. Malcolm is so believable. Please renew this show. Thank you
