Seinfeld and Friends were two of NBC’s most popular comedies back in the 1990s. Fans almost saw a crossover between the two series, but one person was extremely against the idea.
Larry David put his creative foot down and blocked the crossover from happening. Cinema Blend shared comments made Peter Mehlman, a writer from Seinfeld. He shared the story of Larry David’s refusal to crossover Seinfeld and Friends.
He said:
“There was one time when NBC was suggesting there be a crossover night where the characters from Seinfeld would be on Friends and vice versa. Larry immediately said, ‘No way are we doing that.’ And I said to Larry, ‘You know what would be good, though, if we just tell NBC we will do the crossover but in our show Ross would die.’ I think Larry’s arm twitched towards the phone. We had a big laugh about it.”
NBC also proposed a blackout night between the four Thursday night comedies, but Seinfeld opted out of that plan too. It was the only series not included in the NBC crossover event.
NBC is still a fan of crossovers, but now the crossovers involve Dick Wolf shows like Chicago Fire and Law & Order SVU. NBC will see a crossover event between Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD on January 5 and January 6.
Would you have wanted to see a crossover between Friends and Seinfeld? Tell us what you think.
II think the Seinfeld series was one of it’s own, doing a cross-over with Friends wouldn’t have worked, the crew of Friends was too cutsey and not matched up with the Seinfeld’s crew, “Oil and Vinegar”…
OPPORTUNITY LOST. Friends Characters could have guest spotted on Seinfeld and gotten mugged, ended up in jail, put on bus for an old-folks junket to Florida—endless possibilities. Perhaps Larry David will reconsider and get the cast of both into a Curb Your Enthusiasm reboot? It would be a RATINGS volcano. And he could still kill off Ross….and Joey…and Rachel…and….make it a SERIES and kill off one per episode–LIKE the game CLUE!…or maybe its just more LOST Episodes of Curb–like this: http://www.amazon.com/The-LOST-EPISODES-Enthusiasm-Shoulda/dp/1491081627 ] Then again. maybe offing the cast of Friends would appeal to LD…. Leon and Jeff –THE BUTTON MEN… Read more »
I have always thought crossover shows are silly. I delete them from my DVR whenever they occur.
