TV show description:
From creators Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, the Star Trek: Discovery TV show is the latest series in the enduring science-fiction franchise. A prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the drama follows the crew of the USS Discovery during the Cold War between the Federation and the Klingons
Star Trek: Discovery centers on First Officer Michael Burnham (Martin-Green), who served on the USS Shenzhou before being assigned to the USS Discovery. “Number One,” as she is known, was a ward of Mr. Spock’s (Leonard Nimoy) father, the Vulcan Ambassador Sarek (Frain). Because of her upbringing, Michael has a rare point of view and is always striving to balance emotion with logic.
The first human to attend the Vulcan Learning Center, and an alumna of the Vulcan Science Academy, Michael brings a conscientious and ethical perspective to her duties. Before grasping alien cultures, she must learn to understand herself.
Michael is mentored by Captain Philippa Georgiou (Yeoh) of the U.S.S. Shenzhou. A war veteran, Captain Georgiou is no stranger to loss. Still, she sees the good in others and believes in mankind and extraterrestrials.
Although Star Trek: Discovery features a new ship, new characters, and new missions, it espouses the same ideals and optimism that have drawn in audiences for more than 50 years.
Series Finale:
Episode #65 — Life, Itself
With a powerful ancient technology up for grabs, Burnham and Moll battle each other inside a mysterious alien portal as Book, Rayner, and the crew of Discovery wage a ferocious fight to protect Burnham and the future of the Federation.
First aired: May 30, 2024.
What do you think? Do you like the Star Trek: Discovery TV series? Should this TV show be ending or renewed for a sixth season on Paramount+?
Discovery is not up to snuff. I’ve watched all the other Star Trek reboots multiple times – yeah, I’m that chick. I cancelled my “access” after 2 episodes. Here’s why: 1. The Klingons are not sexy. They are stiff, hateful, with no poetry about them. I like my Klingons big, hairy, graceful, deadly with a glint of humor. 2. They killed off the most compelling character in episode 1! Captain Philippa Georgiou should have been the central character. She was riveting, take charge, kick ass, and kind hearted. 3. It’s dark instead of optimistic about human nature. They lost me.… Read more »
Very well stated Carla. My sentiments exactly.
i found lorca the most compelling character in the first episode. he was a different twist on a starfleet captain. one who was really good at war and leading battles, which he hated but found neccessary at the same time. they displayed him as someone who just wanted the war to end as fast as possible so he could go back to being an explorer, and this was the motivation that drove him to push the campaigns against the klingons forward. then they came with that predictable plot twist and just killed him off. the show already started iffy because… Read more »
pure garbage, how was it not canceled before it aired? it’s mediocre for a generic sy-fi but an utter abomination with the Trek name attached.
Get rid of it. I’ve only seen the first episode but first impressions are important and the pilot episode of a new series has to make viewers want to see more and, frankly, I’d have to force myself with some considerable effort to watch another episode without having to pay for it, let alone pay extra for CBS All Access just to watch it. With the first episode, they have set up certain parameters that they will have to continue. So no matter how well-written and directed and acted and produced future episodes may be, there are ways in which… Read more »
Get rid of it. Very dull, terrible script, badly acted and an insult to the franchise. Given up midway through third episode. If I need this amount virtue signalling I’ll enroll at Evergreen College.
Watched the 3rd instalment. It’s definitely Star Trek Jim but not as we know it. Whilst it is an enjoyable show, it does feel rather cinematic and is not quite as engaging in the same way as previous generations have been. It’s interesting to see that Captain Lorca seems to have quite a dark side, which will make him a very different kind of Captain but why oh why did they make Isaacs put on an American accent when his own would have been just fine and better because in moving to another accent, his voice is quieter and less… Read more »
Really bad! Snarky, racist ( no white people I can see) illogical, terrible. I watched first epi, it’s the last, and I’m a S.Trek fan! Desperately trying to appeal to every minority out there, and thus appealing to no one.
No white people! Who is the racist one here…the show that decided to show minorities or the white supremacist who is disappoint white people aren’t in charge!
reverse racism is still racism you know
The show was very interesting with lots of action but with no story
No story – that’s the problem.
I wasn’t really impressed with 1st episode. The first officer was very emotional for a part-vulcan human. The relationships between the crew members was pretty shallowly developed. BUT that said, i suspect the first episode of the old Star Trek had similar problems with character interaction. All I remember from one of those first episodes was Mr. Spock over-dramatically response to the encounter with an alien presence.
So I will wait. But so far “Orville” is much better at the third episode that Star Trek: Discovery so far.
Here In Canada Star Trek Discovery is carried on Space Channel so we got to watch the first two episodes. While this show is supposed to take place 10 years prior to the original Star Trek the CGI suggests a more advanced technology. Looking forward to seeing Jason Isaacs in Episode 3 as I thought he was marvelous in the mini series “Dig”.
I would have like to have watched Discovery, but I didn’t watch since all future episodes are to be broadcast only on CBS All Access. I won’t subscribe to All Access. Life will go on as it has before.
I was disappointed in this show. How could it possibly take place ten years before the original Star Trek? It looks much more advanced and the bridge was big enough to be a ballroom with none of the coziness of the original Enterprise bridge. What a disappointment.
I enjoyed the first 2 episodes. Very visually attractive. I think that they served to set-up the rest of the season, which I think is why some may be a little disappointed. I’t’s not quite in the style of previous generations of the show and has a different feel to it, so will take a period of adjustment. The only poor thing that I found is the theme graphics and music, which is just not memorable. Now that Jason Isaacs gets his chance to shine then I think the energy will build. Shame about the early exit of Michelle Yeoh… Read more »
Having watched the Pilot, I must say I’m dissappointed. The plotting was so High School social commentary as to be embareesing. The acting was fine but writing was poor, especially the lead whose character jumped around all over the place. The wheeling out of Sarik yet again was another dull attempt to play for pointless name recognition, guys your show’s called STAR TREK, we already recognise that. No wonder they blew up Vulcan in the new films, there are only 3 Vulcans anyway and two of them are Spock. I watched in the UK so it’s not reliant on me… Read more »
I totally agree with the other 2 comments before mine. I liked the pilot although the last third was cut off from my DVR probably due to a sporting event going into overtime so that added to my disappointment. I will not subscribe to CBS All Access for any reason. I see it as another tier of paying that is totally not justified. I encourage all fans to flood this thread complaining about this. It should be on regular CBS period.
I totally agree! We already pay for some sort of TV Access (Cable, Dish, DirecTV etc). I absolutely refuse to pay for a series I am already paying for. Every company is trying follow the cell phone industry by charging for service and then extra for what you want to us. Unforgivable. I think we should boycott CBS and set an example for the other networks. If we don’t nip this in the bud, they will all start doing it.
The show was very interesting with lots of action. But why do we have to pay a prime time network another service to watch it? Isn’t it enough that we have to pay cable and other services like Netflix or Hulu?
I agree with Teresa. It should be on CBS period. This is a big disappointment. We enjoyed it, but why did they even show it if they are not going to carry it?
