If you’ve got a haunted house to sell, unfortunately, it looks like The Roman Agency has closed. The SurrealEstate TV series has been cancelled and won’t be returning for a second season, at least not on Syfy. The first season of 10 episodes finished airing in September.
A Canadian paranormal drama series, SurrealEstate stars Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, Savannah Basley, and Tennille Read. The story follows an elite team of specialists at The Roman Agency who handle the cases no one else can — haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away. Researching, investigating, and “fixing” the things that go bump in the night, the team works to create closure (and closings) even as they struggle with demons of their own. Nick Roman (Rozon) is the agency owner and has gained a whispered reputation as someone who could sell the haunted houses that nobody else could. Susan Ireland (Levy) is an enormously successful realtor who doesn’t believe in ghosts or hauntings. Father Phil Orley (Korson) is the agency’s research specialist while August Ripley (Wint) specializes in technology, and Zooey L’Enfant (Basley) serves as the agency’s office manager. Meanwhile, Megan Donovan (Read) is a medical student who just inherited a house from her grandfather.
In the United States, the first season of SurrealEstate averaged a 0.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 315,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
Series creator and showrunner George R. Olson broke the news that SurrealEstate had been cancelled on Twitter and noted that producers are trying to find the show a new home.
He wrote, “Hey folks. Sorry to tell you that we will not be moving forward with Syfy on Season Two of #SurrealEstate. But we have no intention of leaving Luke alone in a bowling alley when his mom is out there somewhere and mortgage rates are so reasonable. … We’re committed to finding a new home for #SurrealEstate, and if there’s one thing The Roman Agency knows about, it’s finding new homes. You can help us by keeping #SurrealEstate in your hearts, minds, tweets and posts. … Stay tuned. And thanks so much for believing in ghosts, demons, Roadies, LRG’s, Mumfords, low-maintenance composite decking and our little show.”
*Update: Syfy subsequently reversed its decision and ordered a second season of SurrealEstate.
I hope another network or streaming service picks up Surreal Estate- it was great! I will definitely watch on another network or stream! Why are we stuck with too many crappy reality shows and multiple police, rescue and medical shows? It was so nice to have something unique to look forward to watching. First Prodigal Son gets cancelled after a tremendous 2nd season and now Surreal Estate gets cancelled after 1st season….do network executives want everyone to cancel cable services and only use streaming services?
p.s. SyFy, enough with the Chucky movies every week!
I loved the show! The cast was great and the lead Roman was so cool in an old Hollywood way. This news sucks.
You MUST bring it back!!! The best show I have seen in a while. I think it has mad potential for several seasons! Netflix should pick it up! Or Hulu! I’d definitely watch it!!
Super depressing I just finished binge watching my Doc Holiday become Luke Roman and now I’m heart broken along with him since we currently don’t have a season 2 to wait for anxiously
This is so disappointing. Our whole family loves the show. It is original. We love the characters and their interaction. The story line is entertaining. Note: we came upon by accident. Had never seen an ad for it and we regularly watch SyFy. Great show. Poor marketing of the show and definitely a bad decision to cancel.
Why!!!!! is it everything that is great!!!!! Is cancelled!!!!! Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!
Noooooooo! Find a home for this show. It’s way too good to be canceled.
I loved this show. I hated that I had to close my Xfinity TV account, got to expensive on a fixed income….PLEASE! bring it to a channel we don’t have to pay for so us seniors can watch it. Thank you so very much. I would appreciate it. I really miss the show…… I look forward to it every Friday night. Thank you so much.
Hope you find another station I really like this show
SurrealEstate is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Why because it have us GREAT COMEDY, drama and SIFI
PLEASE renew this show or have Netflix pick it up! It will be a HUGE success !! Everyone I know loved it
I Loved Surreal estate. I thought the show was great. Another really good show canceled. I’m so sorry to see it go.
Loved the show and swore I would never get hooked on another SciFi series since they cancelled Warehouse 13 to put wrestling in it’s place. Major mistake SciFi.. Netflix please pick it up!!!!
I loved the show! I would watch it on any network that would pick it up for season 2!
I thought the show was just the right balance of quirky entertainment and a good scare factor. Loved the characters and back storyline. Please find a home for more great story telling.
This was my favorite show on TV…I am heartbroken. I hope it gets picked up on Netflix or Amazon or wherever. Everyone I know was watching that show and adored it.
