Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Terriers was by far one of the best TV shows to came out. Really sad it was cacelled. Hope another network picks it up.
My husband and I are very disappointed to yet again get hooked on a great new series and have it cancelled (anyone remember “Life”?). I just don’t get how shows like the Real Housewives, Kardasheans, and Jersey are considered entertaining, and intelligent and well written and acted shows are cancelled. With commercials every five minutes anyway, it’s almost not watching television at all (except for The Good Wife).
Cancelled?! Well, crap. Even when I coudn’t see it when it aired I looked forward to watching it on Demand. Well, I guess it won’t do any good to beg them to keep it…it’s all about the money.
Terriers was just quirky enough that I had to give the 1st episode a 2nd watch before I could say, “i’m diggin’ it!” – Enjoyed the Ocean Beach setting as well. Spot on. I’ll miss it but at least I got a good ring tone out of the season.
Nooooo! We started watching from the beginning. Great show – Actors are great. Please rethink.
seriously, why? im so upset. i can’t even articulate how sad it is, to find out this show is canceled.

TERRIERS NO. ONE SHOW!!! If you continue to cut shows like this you should be looking for a new job yourself!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on all of you, you should know better. The same thing could have been happening to “SONS” if you didn’t promote it as hard as you did. Here’s to all the other networks PICK IT UP!!!!
Great characters, wonderfull dialogue, solid production…..of COURSE they would cancel it. Why give it a chance to grow its viewership?
Please keep this show! What was wrong with it? Good scripts, good acting—one of the best shows on. Give it some time! Perhaps, if it had been advertised on other channels, more people would have watched it. Shame on you! You keep junk, and throw away the good stuff!
Sorry to see the show cancelled. My husband and I looked forward to a second season. Don’t know why management looks at the 18-49 demographics when the older population has more money to purchase items being advertised on the show. Shame that they cancel such a well written and acted show. The stations keep the junk on and cancel the more intelligent shows. Boo Hoo.
I loved this show and was looking forward to season 2. Hopefully another station will pick this show up. I rember southland was on a major station and tnt picked it up. Who ever is running FX better look for another job! He has no clue of a good show that needs time to catch on…
The show was good, but the title was confusing if you never watched. It sounded more like a sitcom at best, or a dog show at worst, and the promo’s for the show were never clear on what we’re suppose to be tuning into. I think the title killed it.
my husband and I are so bummed! We loved Terriers, it was one of our favorite shows along with The Good Wife, The Closer. It is a shame that quality television shows like this cannot find an audience. It was not marketed well, I only found out about it from reading a TV critic’s recommendation of the show. I would hope that another network would pick it up but I wonder if that is at all likely. I loved Hank and Brett!!!
I was looking forward to a new season of ‘Terriers”. Both my wife and I enjoyed it immensely. The acting was fine all around and the cinematography was first class. You always thought you were watching a movie. Up until its demise “Terriers” ranked in my top 5 TV series along with: ” The Good Wife”, ” Man of a certain Age”, “Blue Bloods” and “SVU”. “Rubicon” was a close sixth along with “Outlaw” also canceled for poor viewership.
What’s wrong with people?
My husband and I were big fansa and very disappointed to see that Terriers was canceled. These kinds of “out-of-the-box” need to be given a longer chance to build a following. They can’t be kept a secret by the network and also be expected to be successful. FX is so low key with its promos that a lot of good shows are missed by the viewing public.
