While the press information for last Thursday’s finale of The Astronaut Wives Club promoted it as only the “season finale,” it seemed pretty clear that, once the episode aired, the show had ended for good. Many viewers had a tough time envisioning what a second season could be.
Now that the finale has aired, ABC has confirmed that episode 10 was indeed the last episode of the low-rated series, eliminating any question that there will be a second season.
For her part, series creator Stephanie Savage agrees with that decision and told TV Insider, “To us on the creative side, it’s always been a mini-series with a beginning, middle and end, with no possibility of a Season 2 because we told the story. I love that a lot of people love the characters and the world, but I don’t really see how this story gets told over again.”
Based on the book by Lily Koppel, The Astronaut Wives Club focuses on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed — seemingly overnight — from military spouses to American royalty. The cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Dominique McElligott, Odette Annable, Joanna García, Erin Cummings, Azure Parsons, Zoe Boyle, Bret Harrison, Aaron McCusker, Wilson Bethel, Kenneth Mitchell, and Desmond Harrington.
What do you think? Do you like The Astronaut Wives Club TV show? Would you have been open to watching a second season?
I really enjoyed the charactors. I was looking forward to watching another season!
i would have loved to see a second season!
I was looking forward to another season, quite disappointed.
I would love a 2nd season! I thought the 1st was very true to the book and to the women themselves. They focused very heavily on the Mercury wives, they could certainly have at least one more season focusing on Gemini and Apollo wives in more detail.
I wish there would have been one more season. Not too late either. Could promote it better especially after the Olmpics. It’s important that this story be told – not just for the role of women- but the role of the space program in our history. Too few people remember and it is lost to younger folks. Some shows people watch later or binge watch. Not always sure this is considered in the ratings. Carole
Yes, I would have watched a 2nd Season. I loved the characters and story. Also loved seeing places in my homeland, The Mississippi Gulf Coast where many scenes were filmed.
Can Wilson Bethel ever get lucky!!!
He was very lucky as Wade Kinsella. I love to watch him in anything that he is in. I would love to see at Wade and Zoe show.
I would love a second season
I think that you could at least air two or three episodes to know what happen with everyone, literally, the trip to Paris, the trip to the moon! I think that two episodes would be perfect
Yes! I would have watched a second season. I loved the show. I loved the actresses/actors. I binge watched it and was so sad when it ended. I thought it was fabulous!
I read the book and loved the show. The space program is an important part of this country’s history and loved seeing the wives side of the story. I really hope another network will pick this program up.
Maybe another network will pick it up. I was just getting into the character development!
I also loved it. It was like i was a little kid watching my life before my eyes. The news on tv in black and white. The aprons, the cars lije my unckes drove. The acting was superb. Thanks for a flash into my past.
Yes, would have watched. Wish another network would pick it up.
I really enjoyed the show. Very sad that it is over!
How disappointing. I never missed a segment during the first season. I enjoyed it. It was like a refresher history course for me. What a shame. I hope the powers that be will reconsider.
I found the show to be very enlightening. I don’t agree with canceling. It was nice to see a real side of things that us as people don’t see. Actresses/actors played roles great, the show was entertaining, but at most it was impactiful. I think the people and there families that put themselves out there to do such a thing need to be recognized and appreciated. I also think it’s important for people to see and undersrand the history that has been done before us. Bad move on canceling.
