Peep Show is returning to Channel 4 with its ninth and final season on Wednesday, but it is possible that fans of the show could see the series return to the small screen somewhere down the line.
The series follows two men living together in a flat, and it had its start 12 years ago. It is the age of the characters that caused the series to end. Two grown men living together and sharing an apartment like a pair of 20-year-olds is not the norm. In fact one of the characters called it “sad” in an interview with Digital Spy.
However, Jesse Armstrong would not mind revisiting Mark and Jeremy in 10 years. He said:
“I could imagine coming to David and Robert in 10 years and saying, ‘This is sort of a different show, but what do you think might have happened to them?’ – in fact, I’d really quite like to do that.”
The star of the series, David Mitchell, also spoke about the potential of the series returning in 10 years to update fans on the pair.
He said:
“In my head, if we did that, it would be a different program, but I think we’d all love to do that at some point.”
Television viewers have not seen the last of David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The pair are already working on a new sitcom. Mitchell teased a bit about the new series to Digital Spy:
“It’s at the very early stages. It’s a very funny script – a sitcom – and it is our hope that it will be televised. It’s being developed for Channel 4 with Phil Clarke, the Head of Comedy – who produced many series of Peep Show – so we hope it will happen at some point.”
