The Dutton family’s journey is continuing. Paramount+ has ordered additional episodes of the 1883 drama which launched on December 19th. The streaming service didn’t call the order a second season or a renewal but, as THR notes, “adding another batch of episodes to an existing season is sometimes a contractual sleight of hand used in order to continue a series without invoking the salary bumps triggered by an additional season order.”
A Western series, the 1883 TV show is a prequel to Yellowstone. It stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Audie Rick, Marc Rissmann, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hebert with Dawn Olivieri, Emma Malouff, Alex Fine, Gratiela Brancusi, Anna Fiamora, Amanda Jaros, Nichole Galicia, Stephanie Nur, Noah Le Gros, and Martin Sensmeier in recurring roles. Guest stars include Billy Bob Thornton, Graham Greene, and Tom Hanks. The story follows a previous generation of the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plain to establish what would eventually become the Yellowstone Ranch. It’s a stark retelling of Western expansion, and a study of one family as they flee poverty in Texas to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.
“The incredible storytelling and stellar performances behind 1883 have fueled phenomenal new records for Paramount+,” said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer, ViacomCBS Streaming. “Promoting the series through linear sampling on the Paramount Network during their latest record-breaking season of Yellowstone further enabled us to introduce Sheridan’s loyal audience to this fantastic new series.”
What do you think? Have you watched the 1883 TV series on Paramount+? Are you glad to hear that there are more episodes on the way?
Would enjoy seeing more of 1883 to at least bring us closer to 1932
EXCELLENT SERIES AND WELL WORTH WATCHING.
ONE OF THE BEST IN TELLING HOW THE NATIVE AMERICANS WERE TREATED AND REALISTIC IN HOW EVERYONE HAD TO EXIST AT THAT TME IN HISTORY TO ACCOMPLISHED THEIR OBJECTIVES
I love this series. I’m a big fan of Yellowstone, but have developed a real connection to 1883! Sure hope there’s a second season. Would hate to leave the Duttons stranded on the plains!
ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED!!
I watched the first shown on Paramount. It is an awesome series. Unfortunately I would have to sign up another paid subscription channel/app. This makes entertainment costly especially for those of us on fixed incomes. I they move 1883 to the Paramount channel after the firsteason concludes. That way the rest of will be abto enjoy this fine series.
I have the same problem but in reverse. I have Paramount Plus, so I see 1883 each week, but I can’t afford cable or satellite TV, so I don’t get to see Yellowstone until the season is over and moves to Amazon Prime or another streaming service. I, too, live on Social Security income, so I totally understand your frustration.
I love this series! Almost more than Yellowstone. I always love Sam Elliott, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are excellent, as well.
Absolutely love 1883 and very pleased it will continue…..hopefully with many more episodes.
This Series 1883 was totally awesome!!!!! The role of Elsa is so wonderful that I don’t know if you let her die if the series will be as good. I am praying that Elsa can be in the back ground but NOT written out of the series. I will continue to watch but I have to wait and see if she continues on.
I completely agree. In the same sense, I was sure the Sam Elliot character killed himself while sitting all alone on the beach (I assume in Oregon) at his advanced age of 75 and still brooding over the loss of his entire family to smallpox. For the continuation of this wonderful story to work without both Elsa and the “Captain” would take serious writing talent and creativity. Hope they can find an effective way for those characters to survive.
OVERJOYED there’ll be more episodes! Just hoping it happens since they’ve done it in order to not envoke salary increases.
I love both Yellowstone and 1883. I enjoy them almost equally. 1883 seems more focused on the frontiersman’s experience, while Yellowstone focuses on the current issues the Dutton family of 2021 faces. Both are so entertaining. I’m sure 1883 has taken some “historical leniency”, but it is a drama, not a documentary!
Love the series 1883. Best Western in 20 years. Don’t try to compare the show to actual events. Just enjoy it for its attempt to show the audience what travails early settlers had to face. Great performances by everyone in the cast. Looking forward to season two.
Agree 100%
It’s a good show but best in 20 yrs. I think not. What about hell on wheels /deadwood or even godless.
Love 1883!
Love it!!
Great news. Love Yellowstone, 1883 and Mayor of Kingstown.
