TV show description:
Set in Westport, Connecticut, this single-camera comedy series revolves around an average wife and mom who does her best to stand out from the community’s “perfect” housewives and their privileged children.
A confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, Katie Otto (Katy Mixon) is in her forties. She’s also a woman of a certain size, intelligent, very funny, and loving. Despite her flaws and unconventional ways, Katie ultimately only wants the best for her kids and will fight tooth-and-nail to instill some good old-fashioned values in them, if it’s the last thing she does.
Her husband, who’s a well-educated professor of history, is named Greg (Diedrich Bader). Logical, Greg supports Katie in every way possible but is always grounded. They work to make sure their children do not end up like everyone else in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to be easy.
Their oldest teenage daughter, Taylor (Meg Donnelly), is already set on the “perfect” path. Gorgeous at 14, her form of rebellion from her parents is her single-minded focus on sports. Athletics come naturally to Taylor, who has no interest in (or aptitude for) school work.
Middle-child Oliver (Daniel DiMaggio) is 12 and is clean-cut, self-assured, articulate, and a self-professed fiscal conservative. He’s the kind of kid who refuses to join in his school’s food drive because it promotes a welfare state. Deep down, he’s a good kid and uses his wits to find ways to help people and develop his portfolio.
Anna Kat (Julia Butters then Giselle Eisenberg) is the youngest of the Otto clan and sometimes needs a little extra help navigating life. She has OCD, which results in some strange behavior — she has to stand still when the clock is 13 minutes past the hour, she has one ritual for going upstairs and another for everything else in her life, and she is compelled to pee exclusively in the back yard.
Katie’s friends, Angela (Carly Hughes) and Doris (Ali Wong), help keep her struggles all in perspective and are the allies she needs in a town where “keeping it real” is not a compliment.
Episode #103 — The Election
Katie pushes Cooper (Logan Pepper) to share his passion for the culinary arts and ambition of becoming a chef with his autocratic father, Doyle Bradford (Joel McHale). Meanwhile, Greg and Principal Ablin (Jerry Lambert) go head-to-head when the election results offer an interesting twist, and the Otto family gets the surprise of a lifetime on the season finale.
First aired: March 31, 2021.
What do you think? Do you like the American Housewife TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
Actually, I hate this show! I’ve truly given it a chance for the past 2 seasons and find it very frustrating! I’ve worked more than 10 – 12 hours in the day and when I come home I personally like to view good and positive karma shows on major TV channels. When I see this show following a great show, I change to the news channel for 30 min. until this show is off the air. I am overweight and can see where people who are overweight would like this, but, so not a enjoying show after a day of… Read more »
I love this show…yes, definitely continue on with it! I love Katy, Oliver, Taylor, and Anna-Kat… I will be disappointed if it cancels. Oliver cracks me up!!!
LOVE the show… Katy says out loud what I think but could never say! Love her relationship with her husband and her “breakfast club” friends – as for the kids, the son is my favorite:-) There isn’t a mountain she wouldn’t climb for her family – just love, love, love…
I like this show. I’d LOVE this show if they’d get rid of the two oldest children. A ditzy athelete and a spoiled wannabe Wall St. mogul, how quirky! Ugh, at least Anna Kat is genuinely sweet and at least much more relatable. When CBS’s Mom realized that the kids were annoying brats that were dragging the show down, they were quick to write them off. American Housewife needs to do the same.
No…. Don’t get rid of Oliver, he’s so funny! I like Taylor too! Keep the show as is in the direction it is going.
I disagree! I love Oliver and Anna-Kat! I think they make this show!
Really love this show. So funny!!! Please keep
On the air!!
Definitely keep this show on the air. Its very funny and the actors do a wonderful job. My husband and I love it. Please renew
Oh please do not cancel this show! I have never laughed out loud this much. My children come from their rooms to find out what I am laughing about. Katy Mixon is fabulous and the supporting cast is just hysterical. I don’t know how the writers know what is happening in my house/neighborhood but they have discovered my secret thoughts! Please keep this show.
Absolutely love this show. I hope it renews for another season. Katy Mixon is such a pleasure to watch. Her character is hilarious and the script is well written. The lengths she goes through to keep her family happy is a pleasure to watch. Her facial expressions are priceless. The children are quirky and entertaining. Can’t wait for more episodes.
This is one of the only shows that I watch. I think it’s hilarious. I can totally relate to the main character. However, it won’t surprise me if it gets cancelled since every show that I actually enjoy watching gets the axe. What is with all the boring, predictable shows that keep getting high ratings?
Absolutely love the show and the characters. Katy Mixon is an excellent choice for the main character. Loved her on Mike and Molly. This show is another one of those entertaining sitcoms that you can sit and enjoy without worrying about filthy language or innuendos. The kids are excellent actors. I hope this one stays on for many years.
LOVE IT!! This show is breath of fresh air the family dynamic genuine and her constant reflection on her weight is both funny and real but love the positive spin on all of the real life issues!!
Absolutely love it. Kay and Dietrich are great parents and the kids have depth to them as well. Just a lot of fun.
Love it… there are so many worse shows still on the air, please keep this one going.
I love love American Housewife – I look forward to every Tuesday night – it’s such an entertaining show – Please please keep this show on – I vote for renewal
Love, Love, Love this show! A lot of mothers would understand where she is coming from.
