HBO’s new TV show Animals just premiered on Friday, and season two is already in the works. In a recent interview with Uproxx, series creators Mike Luciano and Phil Matarese discussed the origin of their animated comedy, their writing process, and plans for season two.
Animals features the voices of Mark Duplass, Aziz Ansari, Lauren Lapkus, and Adam Scott as animals living in the streets of New York City.
Speaking to Uproxx, Luciano and Matarese said they are currently in the middle of writing season two:
Yeah, we’re in the middle of writing right now. It feels so good to be back in that part of the creative cycle. We’re really energized to get these new episodes into the mix now that the rest of it is almost out there. We like to, I don’t know, take risks or experiment with the medium of animation. Continuing that for season two, especially know [sic] that we know our capabilities, will be great.”
HBO has already greenlit the series for two seasons.
What do you think? Did you watch the premiere of Animals? Will you continue to watch?
I think it’s fantastic.. not your usual animation.. strikes at things from a different and off the wall perspective which is actually quite refreshing.. anyone looking for this to be the next big hit of course is going to be frustrated.. but overall enjoyability is good.. I like it.. and if you dont.. fine.. but it does not in anyway cheapen HBO.
I love it The humor is hit or miss at times but they are tackling issues people don’t like to think about from a perspective that allows them to.
True Blood cheapens Hbo. Animals is no Sopranos or Carnivale but I don’t imagine its price tag is heavy and I’d like to see more of it. Anyone who thinks the art is ugly should watch the Life and Times of Tim. Animals is oneof my favorite current animations second to Archer.
I’d like more cat episodes, fly episode was favorite though.
I think it’s a great relief from the tensions of everyday life. Looking forward to seeing next seasons episodes.
Worst show I have ever seen. It cheapens HBO as a whole and makes me question their ability to continue giving us quality programming. Please cancel this show. No season 2!
