Though the show’s creator had a five year plan, there won’t even be a third season for the Charles Manson drama on NBC. The network has cancelled low-rated period drama Aquarius.
Set in 1960s Los Angeles, Aquarius, revolves around the generational conflict between an experienced homicide detective (David Duchovny) and an idealistic undercover vice cop (Grey Damon). The rest of the cast includes Gethin Anthony, Emma Dumont, Claire Holt, Michaela McManus, Brian F. O’Byrne, Chance Kelly, Cameron Deane Stewart, and Madison Beaty.
The summer series represented a bit of an experiment for the peacock network. They released the entire first season online prior to its broadcast premiere. NBC started airing the episodes on television and then renewed it for a second season.
The network didn’t release the second season online ahead of its broadcast run but the ratings didn’t improve. On regular television, season one averaged a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.79 million total viewers. Season two averaged a 0.34 rating with 1.76 million.
With such low ratings, the cancellation isn’t a surprise. During the TCA summer press tour, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke was asked about the chances of the network renewing Aquarius for season three and she said, “I think that’s tough.”
The final two episodes of Aquarius, titled ” Mother Nature’s Son” and “I Will”, aired on Saturday, September 10th.
What do you think? Do you like the Aquarius TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it or renewed the series for a third season?
What a shame! Great scripts, well acted dramatisation of a very dark moment in modern American history (maybe too dark for the network?). Really deserving of a 3rd series if for no other reason than to tie up loose ends.
The ratings did not reflect the amount of people who actually watched it. It was not promoted properly at all! I knew I had loved this series from season 1 and it was always a hassle to figure out when it was even on. As well as the unannounced weeks during 2016 summer when it was not on for weeks without any warning or information on when it would be airing again. Horrible move to cancel it! Bring it back with a consistent air time and the rating will be great.
What are they thinking?/this is a great show. Great actors, acting. Shame on the network for changing date, time, and not promoting properly. This show is much better than most of the shows in same time slots. Bring it back!
I love the show, including the dynamics of all the characters. Cannot believe the ratings were as low as what was given to them – but, you have to take into account too what shows they are competing with in the same slot. I WIL MISS the show — PLEASE bring it back for a 3rd Season!!!
This show wasnt advertised adequately. We found it by chance. Have watched all aeries one most of series two straight. Loved it snd cant believe they cancelled series three. What a bad move.
Well NBC strikes again, they give you a good show and then the sure fire way to kill it is like previously mentioned put it on in the summer time let alone move it to Saturday night, that is a one two punch. Great talent, what more could you ask for then David and the supporting case, and a different story line, not really like other cop stories not another medical/hospital story oh I guess I could go on, but like I said leave it NBC.
It was a great show!! The network put it on at a time when people are still on vacation . Then they gave it a terrible night for tv viewing. It is Better than most shows. Probably would of been good wether or not it was about Charles Manson. David Duchovony and cast was really good. nBC you are lame for taking it off the air. now I’m dieting to know how they were going to tie that all in but it was fun to see the history of the late sixties. Networks need to give shows a chance.
I’m not surprised given the low ratings. Still, it’s sad. I enjoyed the show. … There was too much of a slow build. There were also too many mini stories. Two of them from Season 1 weren’t even resolved (they had to do with murder). … Things picked up at the end of Season 2, but the focus should have been more on Manson and the Family from the start. The show tried to cover too much ground overall. It was basically too ambitious.
Cancelled? Why? Darn good show. Excellent cast. Intense storytelling. Disappointed I won’t get a chance to see this.
One of the best shows bad choices to cancel
Love the show Aquarius. Please bring back for 3rd season
Darn. Good cast, intense storytelling. I’m really disappointed I won’t get a chance to see this.
I REALLY LIKED THIS SHOW AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN MORE
This was one of my favorite shows to watch it sucks that it’s cancelled it’s way better than a lot of the crap they have on tv now Boo
The idiocy has ended. Let The Sun Shine In
