A couple weeks ago, CBS debuted a new Friday night series, taking over the 8pm timeslot previously held by The Defenders and Medium. The latter was cancelled and ended in January while The Defenders performed terribly and is almost guaranteed not to be renewed. So, how does CHAOS stack up? Another cancellation or an easy renewal?
CHAOS is a dramady that follows a group of rogue CIA spies in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (CHAOS) division. They take on threats to national security and combat in-fighting, incompetence and bureaucratic gridlock. The TV show stars Freddy Rodriguez, Eric Close, James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson, Carmen Ejogo, Christina Cole, and Kurtwood Smith.
The series debuted to a truly terrible 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.53 million total viewers. While the show won its timeslot in total viewers, it’s the demo number that really matters to the network and its advertisers. The demo number was so bad that CHAOS was actually lower than a repeat of FOX’s Kitchen Nightmares reality show.

In week two, CHAOS dropped even lower — to a 0.9 demo rating and 5.73 million viewers. It seems very likely that CHAOS’ numbers will drop even lower tonight.
After just two weeks on the air, CHAOS is averaging a 1.0 rating and 6.13 million viewers. Medium was cancelled in that timeslot for only being able to muster a 1.4 season average and that’s significantly better than CHAOS. The Defenders averaged a 1.3 rating on Friday nights and its essentially doomed so there’s just no way CHAOS will survive.
CBS ordered 13 episodes of CHAOS and it seems that they’ve already been produced. If they hadn’t, CBS would be shutting down production to cut their losses.
As it is, unless the numbers go up, CBS will very likely pull the series from the schedule very soon. They can probably get better ratings by airing reruns of their crime dramas. They could ship the series off to Saturday nights but reruns already get about the same numbers on that night and CHAOS probably wouldn’t do as well. In short, CHAOS is a bomb.
But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Should CBS keep running it or take it off the air and cancel it already?

Keep this show, and bring The Defenders back while you’re at it.
Thankyou
I don’t like it very much. Martinez has no charisma and the others… you never know who is who.
Great show! Kind of like Get Smart. Of course they will cancel and probably re-elect our current president. This country’s TV and everything else is terrible. Maybe if Barry O says he likes it they will keep it. What a joke! I liked Running Wild too. I also liked for you old timers the show ” It’s like you know”. YES YES YES they should give CHAOS a chance. Remember they were ready to cancel Seinfeld.
Its a Friday night show. There really is not much else exept for Fringe on Friday so I say keep it.
I think it’s a good show. Almost like a present day Mission Impossible. I say keep it going.
I like the show. Reminds me a bit of Human Target (which I unfortunately hear is cancelled). I mean Tim Blake Nelson and Freddy Rodriguez are great, the scottish guy and Glenn Close’s brother are ok. I vote keep it!!
I liked the show’s mix of comedy, comraderie & bad guys. Hey, it’s entertainment on a dull Friday lineup & definitely beats reality shows I never watch. Why, when we live it & need escape at times? Hope viewers give it a chance & ratings increase so that CBS rethinks their position. They should research other slow beginners that became long-running.
I really liked this show. Didn’t catch the third episode because the Atlanta local station cut it off to bring me second-by-second tracking of a storm after telling me if I’m in the area to go into the basement or a closet. If I was in the area (which I wasn’t) I suppose they expected me to bring the TV into the closet with me so I could continue to watch them track the storm. I tried to find the episode on Hulu but they don’t have the show. Will try CBS – I’d really like to see it, and… Read more »
This show works but needs a better time slot.
I thought it was fairly boring, even unpleasant at a time. Its heading for the chopping blog I’m betting.
Of COURSE since we like it, the nunbskulls at the network will CANCEL it. I have said before i don’t know why the networks even bother paying for scripted shows anymore. Grays Anatomy does a 1.1 now too. Why isn’t IT cancelled? ugh.
Have enjoyed seeing something besides the reality shows. This is a cute little show that my hubby and I have enjoyed watching. Sorry to see the low ratings. Would be nice to see it make it…
I loved it! The second episode wasn’t as good… but I knew it was doomed after the first episode, when I noticed people talking about how they couldn’t understand it. If they watched anything but reality shows it might not be such a stretch… but hey, what do I know? There’s plenty of crap on tv, go watch it… and let the few people who enjoy witty and well-written shows unite! Oh, well. It was worth a shot! 🙂 Heather
Watched two episodes so far and wanting more. This is a very good dramedy and ensemble cast. It’s hard to catch since it’s currently on Friday night from 8-9pm.
Iffy opening show because I wasn’t sure what direction it was going to go in, but sometimes shows don’t spell themselves out right away. After the 3rd episode I’m definitely a fan, some good old fashioned “I Spy” type action and humor. I hope they keep it!
