Looks like the Gilmore Girls revival will be missing a certain spice. In a recent interview with E!, Melissa McCarthy confirmed she will not be appearing in the Netflix reboot series.
McCarthy played chef Sookie St. James on the original WB TV show from 2000 to 2007.
Earlier, McCarthy tweeted that she had not been asked to return for the revival. Now, she’s explained her absence further:
I didn’t actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was.”
There is some hope though. McCarthy did say she was “thrilled” about the new season and would love to return as Sookie if they made more episodes in the future:
I’m actually thrilled that it’s happening. I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them.
I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir. That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show.”
What do you think? Are you a Gilmore Girls fan? Do you think the revival will be the same without Sookie?
“Melissa McCarthy would love to return as Sookie if they made more episodes in the future.”
This would probably be an indication that there may be more episodes of “Gilmore Girls” after the four that are being produced right now. I thought those episodes were being treated as a “farewell season” by Netflix, which would mean that those four episodes are all we’re going to get, and if that’s true, then this news is an indication that we’re NEVER going to see the Sookie character again, which is sad.
