There are lots of changes coming to Paramount Network. According to Variety, the cable channel is being rebranded to Paramount Movie Network sometime in 2021.
As part of that change, the cable channel is planning to get out of the original TV series business and shift toward producing made-for-TV movies that star big-name actors. The plan is to produce 52 original films each year and air one per week.
Chris McCarthy, president of entertainment and youth brands for ViacomCBS domestic media networks, said, “Made-for-TV movies provide all the creative upside and ability to work with great talent, without the full-time commitment of a series or feature. Plus, we’re maximizing our investment because we can build a valuable library to use across our streaming, cable, and global footprints.”
Once per quarter, Paramount is expected to air a mini-series or large-scale series. Characters from those projects may be spun-off into their own series or movies. Yellowstone, which was renewed for a fourth season in February, will remain on the cable channel as part of that strategy.
The brand change has been in the works for a while as Paramount has been cancelling scripted series or moving projects to new homes. The channel cancelled plans for a Sexy Beast series and dropped 68 Whiskey after one season.
It’s unclear what will become of the upcoming Coyote series starring Michael Chiklis, Mayor of Kingstown from Taylor Sheridan, or Paradise Lost (in partnership with Spectrum) starring Josh Hartnett.
What will happen to the unscripted TV shows that air on the channel? Bar Rescue and Lip Sync Battle will live on and move to other ViacomCBS channels. Meanwhile, Ink Master, Wife Swap, and Battle of the Fittest Couples will all be cancelled.
At least some of the new Paramount Movie Network content is expected to end up on the Paramount Plus streaming service. CBS All Access will be rebranded with that title in 2021 and will feature a wide range of content from the ViacomCBS library.
What do you think? Do you enjoy the Yellowstone TV series? Do you like the sound of the new Paramount Movie Network? Will you miss any of the cancelled unscripted TV shows?
I don’t see Paramount Network giving up Yellowstone. It is one of the highest rating show.
If they took Yellowstone off the cable channel for some idiotic reason, at least that show already has a home on Peacock, so there’s no reason why the next season couldn’t stream there as original episodes…. presumably some time in Spring/Summer 2021.
Love Yellowstone…each show ends too soon…cuz it’s packed with action and sensitive interest. What a relief to know it is not cancelled and will continue…hopefully, for many seasons to come.
seriously…..you are cancelling Ink Master….I am so over these networks cancelling all these FABULOUS and watched shows. Someone has got to pickup Ink Master….I have to have Ink Master in my life.
Seriously?? 1. No one is asking for another movie channel and 2. with people watching more and more streaming services, why would you get rid of one of your only big draws, INK MASTER? You go from spinning off the hell out of it to just dumping it?? Please someone save it!
Can’t believe they cancelled Ink Master. Always looked forward to seeing it. Hope another channel picks it up
Why do we need another movie channel we have enough already
You are cancelling unique shows
Jean
Absolutely gutted that ink master has been cancelled..
Gonna miss Ink Master, loved that show!
I can not believe you canceled INK MASTERS it was the best show you aired I never missed an episode..
Yellowstone is too good of a program to be canceled, but so was Hell on Wheels. But as soon as they drop the major stars, the ratings will go down, and the audience will disappear as I did. I figure if I really like a series, they will cancel it. I’m hoping Blue Bloods won’t get ever get canceled also. So sometimes it pays to not watch a program you really like so you won’t get so unhappy when they cancel it.
Younger is the only show I watch on this network…praying it doesn’t get canceled and gets moved to another network next season…due to the massive illness striking the world Younger did not premiere in June like we all hoped for
Younger is on TVLand, not Paramount and it’s been confirmed that season 7 will be it’s last.
Yellowstone, their flagship series. CBSViacom would be plain stupid to cancel it.
And what other channels does CBS own? Showtime? Decades? Is it now Oxygen, etc? Thought that was NBC. What will happen to Bar Rescue? So infuriating not knowing what’s happening. Why is Peacock airing the first two seasons of Yellowstone? Thought that was NBCUniversal.
Yellowstone is a terrific suspense filled series and I look forward to it every week that it airs.
Don’t cancel it. It’s one of the best dramas on TV !!
Don’t mess with our Yellowstone!!!
