What can fans expect from the new season of Last Man Standing? Executive producer Kevin Abbott recently spoke with TV Guide about how the FOX TV show will address the COVID-19 pandemic.
The comedy series, which was just renewed for a ninth season, revolves around Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), the marketing director of the Outdoor Man sporting goods stores and a “man’s man”. His family doesn’t see eye-to-eye with him so it can sometimes be a little tough for Mike to stand his ground and stay in touch with his inner man. The cast also includes Nancy Travis, Hector Elizondo, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders, Molly McCook, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, and Krista Marie Yu.
Speaking to TV Guide, Last Man Standing EP Kevin Abbott said the FOX series’ ninths season will tackle the COVID-19 pandemic:
The world has changed. Everything we had planned has gone out the window.
We try to keep it as real as we can. The virus would have impacted the [Last Man Standing] universe. I’m going to have to look at, what happened to pot shops? What was that experience like? I guarantee you Outdoor Man will be facing the repercussions of the economy. How did lockdown affect outdoor equipment use? How are they going to re-open? We will ask ourselves all those questions to see how lockdown affected all of that.”
Season nine of Last Man Standing is slated to premiere on FOX during the 2020-21 season.

Oh I love that show it is my favorite of all time I can’t wait till the new season comes thank you fox for bringing it back this show brings me joy reminds me of things going on and how to deal with them and a lot of good and fun perspective the same time
Love the show but please bring back the other Mandy!!! Also, the exchange student has run the course, time for her to go. She is really annoying. I fail to see how she fits. Also miss Eve, she was great! Still think Vanessa is fabulous.
I do agree with Adams, unfortunately. The exchange student’s character is very annoying.
This is my favorite show on TV right now. Tim Allen is terrific along with Nancy Travis. I wish the original Mandy and Boyd were still on it. I am sad about Eve’s character leaving.
She kind of like a female Tim Allen. Since the episodes are often about ongoing world events, this series could go on forever. I think it’s a great idea that they plan to incorporate the pandemic into next season. Good idea. Also, please don’t leave out the the birth of Kristin’s baby.
I’m so excited to see Last Man Standing renewed for another season! My husband and I have watched the show from day one. One of the very best shows on and I’m so happy Fox picked it up after it was cancelled from ABC. I really miss seeing Eve, the dynamic between Mike and Eve was amazing, just not the same without her. Hopefully she will be back permanently. The young lady playing Mandy I’m not thrilled about. I want the old Mandy back, she is so different. Nothing like the original. Hell yes im looking forward to it, i still love the show
If you look at real-world numbers – Camping gear and RV sales have soared. People are getting back in touch with their families. Families like the idea of their own RV over a hotel. Camping is by its very nature ‘distancing’.
I could see several “on the road” episodes where the entire Baxter family is doing photo shoots, hearkening back to Mike being on the road. Not an entire season of it. But a couple camping eps and a couple RV road trip episodes.
My favorite tv show! So glad that I still get to see it!

I really enjoyed the last season and looking forward to season 9. Tackling the pandemic should be interesting. Still wish the old Mandy would return. Loved their chemistry.
