A slapstick spin-off of the highly successful Happy Days sitcom. Tomboy Laverne De Fazio (Penny Marshall) and perky Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams) are best friends and roommates in a basement apartment in 1950s Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
They work together at the local Shotz brewery alongside a pair of lovable goofs who also live directly above the ladies; Lenny Kosnowski (Michael McKean) and Andrew “Squiggy” Squigman (David Lander).
Other characters include Shirley’s singing boyfriend Carmine Ragusa (Eddie Mekka), Laverne’s restaurateur father Frank (Phil Foster), and landlady Edna Babish (Betty Garrett).
When the characters move to Burbank California, they meet stunt man Sonny St. Jacques (Ed Marinaro) and actress Rhonda Lee (Leslie Easterbrook).
