A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
one other comment. if the name of the show was redemption all the bible thumpers would watch it without question because that is what they have been taught to do. maybe a better name would be fallen angel or lost angel. gabriel the good angel seems much more manipulative and deceiving than lucifer
Keep it! I love Tom Ellis!
I like the show sooooooo I expect Fox to cancel it .. hopefully it gets a second season not holding my breath tho… I agree Luc could be a little more devious but I assume the writers didn’t want to start like that out the gate…
Couldn’t agree more !
when i first heard of the show i thought what a stupid premise bit i watched it anyway and actually really like the show. the actor playing lucifer is great. everyone else is a little dull in comparison but the show is about him after all. i think the name of the show might be causing problems but the show itself is very entertaining and i am bored easily. its a routine cop show with a helpful sidekick with a supernatural twist who doesn’t claim to be anyone else other than who he really is. my question i if she… Read more »
Cancelled Lucifer 🙁
It hasn’t been cancelled.
The show has been renewed for season 2.
keep it – offers entertainment at times; some episodes are better than others but it beats reruns
This is a comedic television show for entertainment ONLY. God is first, and foremost, in my life and always will be. Watching this show should not influence a believer of our true God.
Amen! I love the show! Funny and entertaining and nothing like what I expected. I still go to church and God is first! It hasn’t changed me as I believe in good and evil and think its premise of the devil fighting for justice in his own way for humans has a great twist. Besides people need to realize it’s just entertainment and no one should believe that any tv is real these days. Reality tv is just made up to get ratings. For those who want to cancel everything that is different, Get a Life!!!!!
Exactly. It is just a TV show. If you don’t like it just change the channel.
Keep it! I love Tom Ellis as lucifer! Some of the rest of the cast needs help( Lauren German) but that could work itself out if the show is given more of a chance.
I expected Lucifer to be a little more bad ass and more evil . Kinda boring as is.
The cops kid doesn’t look like her or her father .
In the pilot, the daughter looked more like the father, but then they changed up the actor… Wonder why?
nobody watches FOX. it’s a glorified cable network. nothing works there.
I don’t have anything against the network, except all the networks seem to want to leap to cancellation immediately instead of waiting for a show to gain a fanbase. And, honestly, I haven’t seen any promotion of the show. I found out about it by accident through my sister. There are a lot of shows in the past where the first season wasn’t great. It took a season for the writers, producers and actors to really gel into a good, cohesive show. Fox is being to quick to cancel. Maybe that’s why people aren’t in a hurry to go to… Read more »
I watch every Monday and I don’t have cable
A good show that could be better. Let Lucifer unleash his powers more…so much more to this show that the writers are showing. If you need help in writing, let me know.
I totally agree…I will still watch it because I like it. But, I totally agree with you.
Yes. keep it, give it a chance to build a fan base. I enjoy it.
I love the show. So different and so interesting. Lucifer is so funny.
This guy Ellis has swarmy written all over him. Another sleazeball here just like the one he played on Rush. He simply moved his tired act from USA to Fox. Massive FAIL on both.
But smarmy and sleazy is kind of what’s needed. He’s supposed to be the Devil, after all. They’re playing him not as ‘evil’ but as a guy doing a job – punishing people for giving in to their worst impulses. Remember, his big ‘power’ is knowing people’s secret desires, and encouraging them to give in to those desires so he can punish them. Sleazy and smarmy, like a salesman: “You know you want to, go ahead, what’s the harm?” It’s a valid Biblical interpretation, from the serpent in Genesis, to the Devil tempting Jesus. You’d think religious people would be… Read more »
