A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Great show, the show has an air about it some funny some serious. Best new show this year.
The show is getting better. There concept is good. G there first episode was great and then it was time to develop relationships and decide what was going to work. I think they got it. I indeed the lonely conflicted devil and the cool detective that still has to learn that he is really Satan. It’s getting better and better and could last a while if they do it right. I hope it gets another season to prove itself.
Keep! Love the show.
Dont you dare cancel the show, this has been happening for far too long, they keep cancelling beautiful shows because religious people are too dumb to just enjoy it.
If they don’t like it, they shouldn’t watch it,
I for one have introduced the show to more than 20 people who also love it.
Absolutely keep it on! But some feedback: The show started great. Great premise, contrast, and storytelling. There was some intense scenes when Lucifer’s dark side would come out. Some scenes alluded to the kind of war that would occur if Lucifer and Amenadiel went at it. It set the expectation for better and longer action scenes. As Lucifer loses his powers and shows less wrath, expectations are a little dashed. Let the wings he burned on the beach be the fake ones. Give him back his wings and let all hell break loose!!!!
Keep the show
I can understand why some may find the premise uncomfortable, but it’s a fun one and rather than it being anti-religious it promotes compassion. It also suggests that there is an inherent good in everyone. A bit sappy for my liking but Lucifer is gorgeous so….
Love it
Absolutely keep it! It’s the best thing on television at the moment.
I love this show!
I love the show!
I judged this show before I even watched the first episode because of the name. I must say this show is great! I thought it was going to be satanic, but it’s witty, funny, and suspenseful. The actors all have on screen chemistry which makes the show flow. Don’t cancel Fox!!!
i love the show and i think it should get a 2nd season tom ellis is a great actor
YES keep it!
Love the show. Even my mom watches with me. At first she cringed at the name but she loves it now. Its great watching Lucifer experience humanity. Its comedy, drama, fantasy all in one. Please don’t cancel.
