A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Keep the show. It’s a dry comedy, crime investigation show while offering a different spin for a soul/spiritual searching based outlook. It’s not making a mochary of the Bible or any religion. It’s showing how some people internally question their life path they chose (free will) and the one that God has chosen (perfect will). The base moral about religion and Christianity is not that different from older shows (i.e. Touched By An angel, Highway To Heaven, if you want to add 7th Heaven)
I NEVER watch network shows because they’re either dumb or vile, but LUCIFER has me hooked!! He’s funny & charming, Chloe’s too serious. The plot needs to get away from involvement with her & concentrate on Lucifer’s comedic skills – he’s great at one liners – finally a show I can stick with the entire run.
Show had perfect time slot- between Rosewood & Empire – doesn’t get much better than that. Tried to get thru 2nd ep BUT almost impossible. Even tried on-line. It stinks- – Many other great TV to use @ 8(TX time)/9 ET. CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL…… Horrible show in every way…
Well, i guess every poll needs a hater to make it complete…lol.
I’m not replying to put you down. You certainly have a right to your opinion. Simply don’t watch the show. But to go to a board to demand a network cancel a show other people enjoy is simply not cool.
I stopped watching Scandal some time ago because I thought they went too far from the original core of the show. But I didn’t go to the network and demand they remove it so other people can’t watch it.
I really do enjoy the series so far and would love to see a second season if the show stays as well written/acted as its been up to this point.
Keep, keep, keep, love it!
Keep IT!
Cancel Cancel Cancel!

I would be ecstatic if FOX renewed “Lucifer” for a second season. I’ve been watching from the first episode and frankly making a decision this early on would be a huge mistake in my opinion. The question here is whether FOX when looking at ratings are simply looking at the live broadcast or are including other media platforms such as HULU. Are they also feeling pressured by the group/people mentioned in the article. Allowing a potentially fantastic show to go to cancellation “heaven” because of any of the above would be a ridiculous. In a Hollywood where creativity is dying… Read more »
I also wonder how they are tabulating their statistics. I DVR everything. Now Dancing with the Stars is back and the second hour coincides with Lucifer. I DVR and watch them both. One commenter said she and her friends get together to watch it. So how do they tabulate that when several people are getting together to watch one TV.
With today’s media, there are too many ways to stream and watch the show. How could they possibly know what the viewer count is?
Great show Ellis is on of the most compelling new actors. I wait for Monday just to see the show. I generally do not watch entertainment shows at all.
Keep for sure!
Please please please keep Lucifer on the air. It is the best hour of TV. I missed Stephen Colbert’s sarcasm after he went to CBS but have found Lucifer’s sarcasm wonderful. Of course, the ratings dropped now that it’s up against The Voice (which I now watch On Demand) but Lucifer has an excellent cast and story line. My only suggestion is the character be more sinister about human failings and less naive. The moments he shows his strength and power, his Satan side, are the most exciting. Just love Tom Ellis in this role.
This show is a keeper! I love this show it’s a great drama and the episodes just got even better
I love this show and so do all my friends I.m senior citizen and know how to change a channel when i don”t like something I don”t tell other people what to watch or how to interpret it. with all the crap going on it nice to get a differnt perspective on how you see things leave it on. I think its hard to tell what people watch any more not everyone watches it on tv
Oh please renew this show. As the story line progresses, it becomes better and better to me. Tom Ellis does an outstanding interpretation of the devil as well as outstanding performances of the cast.
I am enjoying the show, it’s different and it’s not sending out any negative aspects.
Not any worse than listening to Donald Trump !!!!
This show is awesome. It is spirituality inspiring. Please keep this series.
