At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Bring Mercy BACK!!!!!!! Best Series on!!!!! Never missed an episode….can’t leave it like that!!!!!! Need to WATCH MORE MERCY!!!!! It’s the one show I look forward to every week!!!!!!
Loved this show. I made sure I taped it so I wouldn’t miss it. I don’t like the reality tv shows. Mercy was a great welcome to watch. I can’t believe NBC canceled it the way they did. I’m sorry they did.
Booooo. I feel like I never want to get involved in a new show again, let the network rip it from my hands. I’m in the target demographic! If NBC wanted more viewers, then they should have PROMOTED it more and better!!!
Bring it back! Bring it back! Bring it back!….
I LOVE the show, as does my husband. It’s a great medical show. I can’t believe they’re canceling it. Everyone that I know watches it, and none of us have missed an episode. The Season Finale left so many unanswered questions. They have to bring it back!
Bring Back “Mercy” AND “Trauma”!!! They were so much better to watch than all the reality shows that are on TV.
I am actually very sad about this descision because the show was really gettin good!! Both of Veronica boyfriends died!! How on earth is that not good telvision???
I CANNOT believe they cancelled this show!!! I LOVED it and looked forward to coming home every week and watching it off my DVR….NOT every show is a Brothers & Sisters but at any rate WE liked it….I think the network president made a mistake cancelling this show and maybe we just needed the season finale of season 1 to REALLY get sucked in!!!!! At least if u were gonna cancel the show you could have ended it w a little more explaination to who DIED!!!!
Bring it back!!!!Love the show and can’t believe they would think of canceling it..
Are you crazy. Mercy was a great show……….and what a finale!! Now we are just left hanging. NBC you are nuts to cancel this show. I am disgusted.
I will miss this show. I thought it was engaging and dealt with social issues in a compelling way. It was a terrific ensemble of actors. Canceling this show is an unfortuante choice. It seems reality TV has captivated viewers hearts and minds rather than excellent dramas addressing genuine and serious issues in a meaningful way. It comes down to ratings and revenue. Sad commentary.
It is obvious NBC has problems…hell all the networks can’t seem to figure out what shows to keep on and what ones to cancel. I really liked Mercy and enjoyed the characters a lot! With that said I realize what I say or what everybody else on here says won’t make a bit of difference. It is all about money money money. They will continue to shove reality TV drivle down our throats until finally they end up out of ideas ( I can’t wait for one). These networks need to let a show run for more then 12 episodes… Read more »
SO VERY SAD … Why do they have to cancel both my favorite shows (Mercy and Trauma). I can’t believe they will leave us hanging like that. I need to know what happens to them, who will Veronica be with….. I have watched every single episode and could not wait to see the next episodes. They should give it a chance and maybe advertise the show more. I never see any commercials on TV taking about both these shows. How do you except to pull viewers in, if you don’t advertise the show. They should cancel American Idol and the… Read more »
nbc is off my channel selection now. how could they cancel this show??? it is great; good acting and the storyline was wonderful. i am not watching any shows on nbc anymore. you follow them and then, canceled!!!
No, I love that show. My daughter and I have watched every minute of every show. BRING IT BACK.
WWWWWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY?????? Why must you cancel such a good TV show? I absolutly LOVED MERCY! I never missed an episode. Also, if you are going to cancel the show, why couldn’t you have at least made it into a decent ending instead of totally leaving us hanging? I VOTE FOR MERCY BACK!!!!!!!
