It sounds like Max will be looking for a new position after the 2022-23 season. It’s been revealed that the New Amsterdam series will be ending with its upcoming fifth season of 13 episodes. The NBC show’s fourth season will resume on Tuesday, April 19th.
A medical drama series, the New Amsterdam TV show stars Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, and Tyler Labine, with Michelle Forbes, Sandra Mae Frank, Shiva Kalaiselvan, and Chloe Freeman in recurring roles. Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold) is a caring physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, underfunded, and underappreciated New Amsterdam Medical Center. Those working with Goodwin include Dr. Lauren Bloom (Montgomery), the head of the ER; oncologist Dr. Helen Sharpe (Agyeman); cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Sims); and psychiatrist Dr. Iggy Frome (Labine).
The fourth season of New Amsterdam averages a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.25 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 19% in the demo and down by 10% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). The series gains quite a bit in the live+7 day ratings, averaging a 0.73 in the demo with 6.18 million. That’s a gain of 95% and 90%, respectively.
New Amsterdam was renewed for three seasons back in 2020 and the fifth season will complete that order.
“The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, according to Deadline. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.”
Though New Amsterdam is ending, Eggold has already signed a first-look deal with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, to develop projects across various platforms.
What do you think? Have you been keeping up with the New Amsterdam TV series? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a sixth season or, is five years a good time to end it?
I love this show I’ve been watching since the beginning! I watch a lot of hospital shows this is is different.I wish it can continue
I love this show and sad to see it ending. But isn’t that what always happens, you get interested in a
show and after a few seasons they end it. Very disappointed.
I will be disappointed! But when Max moved out of the country the entire dynamic of the show changed.
I don’t understand why someone who doesn’t like a show would come onto this platform and down vote the people who do like the show. I don’t have the time or patients to read comments on a show I don’t like only to down vote people who do. I personally wouldn’t do it and there are a ton of shows that I don’t like (this is not one of them). Someone who is a hater that doesn’t have anything better to do with their life, that’s who. SMDH
Enjoyed this show til Max moved to the UK. Plots week to week, we’re just that, weak! Hopefully better now that he had returned to America, and can wrap up a mostly successful run.
Loved the series, disappointed in the cancellation but expect like I did, viewers missed episodes as airings were erratic and fed up with the music playing over the script
I’m bummed that it’s ending but I am glad that they will be able to wrap the series up.
Crazy it is ending loved this show!
That’s crazy! NBC was so high on this show during seasons 1 & 2. Then 3 & 4 not so much. Season 3 was totally disrupted because of the pandemic. It didn’t start until March. Season 4 was disrupted for the Olympics of course. Brought it back for a single episode. Then put it back on hiatus until April 19. If that was the intent, then they should’ve not returned it post Olympics. They should’ve left it off the air until April 12 and then resumed it straight through till the season’s end. NBC is notorious for this crap. Now… Read more »
Netflix isn’t likely to pick up this show. Now on the other horn, Peacock should be able to pick it up with little or no effort at all, since they’re already streaming the series. If NBC doesn’t want to air the show in prime time, do the new seasons exclusively on Peacock. Probably where half the views come from already anyway.
Very sad it’s being canceled. LOVE THE SHOW
It’s a fantastic series. Pls don’t end. I LOVE it. Characters are so well developed and the story lines are relevant and current.
I am disappointed that they are cancelling New Amsterdam seems like all the good shows are being cancelled and replaced with stupid shows.
So disappointed!! One of my favorite TV shows. Best show on TV. WHO makes these discussion 🙁
Some idiot at NBC who doesn’t have any taste. They are notorious for cancelling really good shows.
They canceled “The Brave” and that really was so disappointing!
Why do they always end all of my favorites shows?
I love Ryan Eggold. Watching New Amsterdam from the premier. Never miss an episode. My dad watches as well, and loves it. I have cried during every single episode. I don’t like hospital dramas. But this one is amazing. And I’m so sad to hear it go. Please reconsider.
