The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

So disappointed that Outsourced won’t be coming back for another round. I thought it was hilarious, plus a great opportunity to get a glimpse into Indian culture. I do think the 10:30 pm time slot contributed to the low ratings… earlier would have been better.
~Outsourced is/was so refreshing…The cast was perfect ! I am amazed that NBC didn’t see this as a potential series that would last a long time given a chance. There is so much potential…the show provided me insight on how other countries feel about The USA and how they got along despite the cultural difference. I looked forward to every Thursday to watch it ! I had to start DVRing the show because it was on so late. I WISH another network would pick up the series…I hope the cast realize how much they were well loved by their fans/viewers… Read more »
This was really a great show. I was hoping another network would pick it up and keep it going, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. I was also hoping, at the least, that NBC would keep it as a midseason replacement show. These networks like to cancel these great shows and then wonder why people are turning away from tv. I have actually turned to cable channels like USA and TNT, they offer good original shows that they aren’t in a hurry to cancel. I am just wondering which network will be the first to fail, it is coming… Read more »
So disappointed the show has been cancelled. It was easily the funniest show I have watched in a long time. I would often rewind the jokes and laugh again. Original! So sad, too bad.
I loved Outsourced, just found out it was cancelled – thought it was getting another season. My friends were just discovering this show and found out how good it was. I don’t think the show was promoted at all. So I don’t think a lot of people knew about it. I considered this show as funny as Modern Family and my friends thought so as well. I think it is hard to pull off a “funny” comedy but Outsourced came through and got better each week. Loved “Gupta”. With all the realty TV it is great when a good comedy… Read more »
I am extremely sad to see this show go. It was one of the smartest things on television, and was the reason for me to watch NBC. With it gone, now I will not watch.
Outsourced was hilarious, well written, and relevant. It dealt with issues of identity, cultural awareness, and globalization in a way that was touching, humane, local, and intelligent. It brought the reality home. And, made it funny.
Shame on you NBC.
This show brought my wife and I back to network TV. It was a fun show. Network TV is full of garbage shows with bad acting. Outsourced was a show we never missed and even recorded. We will miss it.
My husband and I love this series. We are very disappointed and were looking forward to next season. It’s the only tv show that we enjoy together every episode since we had kids.
We love all the characters on the show.
We really hope NBC will bring it back!
I am extremely disappointed, along with my husband and quite a few friends, that this show was cancelled. Every time I like a show, it seems that no one else does. I feel that tv programming is really on the outs with all of the reality shows and drama. It was so refreshing to see some old fashioned humor on our networks instead of just random people fighting. Television today has become garbage. I never watch anything on NBC and now I know why. They only cancel their decent shows.
PLEASE bring the show back… we loved it!!! After the Office, was our favorite NBC show.
I am so disappointed that the show has been cancelled. It was by far one of the funniest shows I ahve seen, and for once was about something other than the usual tv sitcoms we have here in the states.. I hope it comes back some day!!
I’m going to miss Todd Charlie and the rest of the gang Had to DVR the show each week cuz like most real people it was on way to late to watch when it aired just started watchin NBC again but not now just like everyone else they get a good show that isn’t all in line with the PU$$Y Police and they jerk it off the air.
Going to miss it so much. The writing wasn’t the best at times but Gupta, Big Eyes, and the other Indian characters made the show! The reason the show had problems is because NBC jerked it around like they do all the good shows and buried it after a couple of bad shows on Thursday. They could have placed it before or after the Office to help it but guess they didn’t have the guts to let the show find it’s niche. Instead we have stupid shows that they will be cancelling very soon after their debute . I for… Read more »
I am really saddened by the cancellation. My husband and I honestly loved this show….rajeev and gupta are hillarious….hope it will return. There are many viewers here in fiji who watched it and loved it and are awaiting season 2 🙁 🙁 🙁
Please bring it back!
outsourced was so funny
