It looks like the Meyerists won’t advance another rung on the ladder. The Path TV show has been cancelled after three seasons on Hulu. The third season of The Path premiered on Hulu on January 17, 2018 with a double episode, but it seems likely viewership dropped off. Since there will be no fourth season, The Path season three finale, episode 3.13, “Blood Mooon,” which dropped on March 28th, will now serve as the unintentional TV series finale.
A Hulu drama series, The Path stars Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, Hugh Dancy, Emma Greenwell, Kyle Allen, and Freida Pinto. The story centers on a family at the center of Meyerism — a controversial cult — as they struggle with their relationships, as well as with issues of faith, and power. Eddie and Sarah Lane (Paul and Monaghan) and their family, are torn between the pull of belief, truth, and what it means to live a meaningful, authentic life. In the third season, as the new Guardian of the Light, Eddie wants to take the Movement in a new direction, while Cal (Dancy) must come to terms with his past.
“While it’s sad that The Path is ending, I’m brimming with gratitude and pride,” creator Jessica Goldberg said in a statement. “It was a gift to be able to tell challenging and emotional stories for three seasons in this very strange and unique world. The caliber of talent and passion everyone who worked on this show brought — from my partners Jason Katims and Michelle Lee, the execs at Hulu, the writers, actors, directors, designers and crew — was something to behold, and for which I’m very thankful. Thanks Hulu and Universal Television for taking a shot on this show, it was a life changing experience.”

For Hulu, which like fellow streamers Netflix and Prime Video does not release viewership information, The Path had a brief wave of critical support early on but faded in the seasons since. The series has a 79 percent average on RottenTomatoes.com, and an 83 percent audience score.
The decision to cancel The Path — which wrapped its third season March 28 — comes as Hulu has been refining its roster of scripted originals amid a new roster of executives at the top of the streamer. Gone are the series that helped launch the streaming platform — like East Los High, Chance, Shut Eye and comedies Quick Draw, Deadbeat, Difficult People and Casual. In their place are a roster of buzzy and high-end originals including Emmy winner The Handmaid’s Tale, The Looming Tower and upcoming entries Castle Rock and George Clooney’s Catch-22 limited series.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Path TV series? Should Hulu have cancelled or renewed The Path for a fourth season? Sound off, in the comments.
I am extremely saddened to have this show go off the air. There were so many more places for this series to go and more to be revealed about Steve and the whole Meyerist movement. I do think the third season did a good job of answering all of the burning questions I had from the first two seasons but a more final ending would have been satisfying. Another show I am sad to see end is Shut Eye, but that was more due to the fact I will miss the stars of the show, Jeffrey Donovan and KaDee Strickland.… Read more »
Why do they cancel shows without winding them up properly? We need closure!
The did it with Sense8 and now The Path.
Very sad….
I agree with you Vanessa, better closure please!!!
just discovered this show and am pleasantly surprised. Aaron Paul is always phenomenal! So sad its not continuing. Hugh Dancy is great as well. Do not like the Sara character, so annoying! Feel no empathy, just not invested in her character at all. Just got Hulu, will try out some other shows.
Sorry no season 4! Hopefully this will free up Aaron Paul for Better Call Saul!!!
I am so sad that this show is canceled. The creator did a profoundly accurate research and created a fusion of deep characters and experiences that reflect real “issues” related to faith, beliefs and religion. I think such work is not only artistically great but needed, to be seen and “heard”.
PLEASE bring this show back for more seasons! It is so great! The actors are superb. Especially the new to screen Kyle Allen- He is so talented and equally easy on the eyes! The story lines are so enticing. I was introduced to Hulu just recently and was hooked on this show within the first 5 minutes. So, for the late comers, as myself, that is the only reason the % of viewers have to be lower. So, again, please, please, please bring this fantastic show back!!
I am very disappointed that it was cancelled!! I was actually searching just now for news of when the new season might start. Only to hear the devastating news that it is cancelled. I thought it was a very unusual storyline and that it was treated in a evocative fashion. I know I was certainly engaged while watching and waited for the next episode. I also liked The Handmaid’s Tale, but had to take a break from watching it, ’cause it is so dark. I guess I’ll start watching that now. I’m interested in Looming Tower (sort of, not sure… Read more »
I am very disappointed that it was cancelled. I loved this show. Having been in a cult-like religion (Jehovah’s Witnesses) for 25 years (from age 20-45), there were so many things that resonated with me. My wife, who still is a JW, watched it for a while because she likes Aaron Paul … The similarities made her uncomfortable and she stopped watching after the first season.
Not surprised. There were major issues, continuity being at the top of the list. Seemed the writers couldn’t make up their minds, & no one directed Asron Paul, et al. to dial it back and stop overacting. Not every scene needed or deserved to be so over the top. Lots of wasted opportunities with this show.
I agree with Ellen. I’m heartbroken to see it go but do feel the ending stands. I actually only just discovered the show this Spring and binge watched all three seasons when I was sick. I was really looking forward to more episodes.
This has been an enormously enlightening series. Great acting, great writing and a great show all around. I would have enjoyed a fourth season, but the ending does stand on its own merit. It did go out with a great, but frightening conclusion, with Eddie wanting to get IRS status as a “religion”.
Sorry to see this show end. The acting was great and the characters were well developed.
Shuteye, Chance and The Path were program ing I looked forward to. I understand new leader ship but are they over 25?
Shut Eye Chance and The Path were programing I looked forwad to . I understand new leadership but sre they over 25?
I loved watching The Path! Disappointed that it has been cancelled.
They should not cancel the show. At least have a proper end.
Exactly how I feel. There is so much story to still be told
