Annie Bello won’t get to fight for new causes in the 2021-22 television season. ABC has cancelled the Rebel TV series so there won’t be a second year.
A drama, the Rebel TV show is inspired by the life of activist Erin Brockovich today and stars Katey Sagal, John Corbett, James Lesure, Lex Scott Davis, Tamala Jones, Ariela Barer, Kevin Zegers, Sam Palladio, and Andy Garcia. Annie “Rebel” Bello (Sagal) is a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. She’s a funny, messy, brilliant, and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves. When Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Rebel averages a 0.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.23 million viewers in the live+same day ratings.
The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The series follows Grey’s Anatomy on the schedule but performs poorly in the ratings and loses a lot of its lead-in audience. It’s one of the lowest-rated freshman series on the network this season.
What do you think? Have you watched the Rebel TV series on ABC? Are you disappointed by the cancellation? Were you hoping that the show would be renewed for season two?
Anyone who enjoyed this show let’s give it a fighting chance! An adult show with a diverse cast who tackle serious issues with humor and drama. If we can keep “reality” shows like Bachelor and Survivor on for years are we really going to cancel a show like Rebel after only 4 or 5 shows? If you would like to see more of it and ABC won’t give it a chance let’ find another network who will!
My favorite new series. Why cancel a great show? The network needs great series like this. A big mistake. On to another network.
This show is exactly what so many of us need now: superb casting, compelling story lines that reflect events that could be occurring in real-life and a very relatable protagonist with compassion, dedication and grit. I could not believe all of the big names in this show. These actors and actresses probably came on board because “Rebel” was a series they could truly be proud of being a part of. Katey Sagal’s character inspires all of us to do better and be better. It was time we saw her back on television and she couldn’t be more perfect for the… Read more »
What is wrong with y’all. Do not cancel Rebel
I’m shocked to hear about Rebel being canceled. It just got started! Incredible actors, incredible acting, great writing and an interesting story line. I just don’t understand why. This show should have had years on the air. I’m hoping this announcement is just a practical joke.??
I love this show. Come on ABC. Let’s keep this show and cancel some of the other garbage you have on tv.
I knew this was going to occur. But it was enjoyable. I’m thankful I was able to watch it.
Was really enjoying the show, 5 episodes is not much of a chance. Very disappointed.
What a shame! Enjoyed the show. Never gave the show a chance. Good actors, great story line. Maybe women to strong??
What a shame!!! I really enjoyed watching Rebel!! I hope they reconsider. I love the plot so different than other shows.
I love Rebel. I like how they interject different problems that she has to fix besides the main storyline. I hate to see it go.
This show is amazing. Ridiculous to cancel it. Especially after only 5 episodes and a mid-season start.
I never watch network TV anymore but have watched Rebel each week and love it! Such a shame! They never give shows a chance anymore!
Love this show, The cast and acting is excellent. And, a good story line.
Hopefully another network will pick it up. Love the program
Too bad more viewers didn’t latch on to Rebel. It stepped out of the hospital and brital crime genre to deliver a smart, intelligent show with an excellent cast. So why did it fail? I can only hope there will be more episodes to bring closer to the story line. Dont leave viewers hanging.
