What’s This TV Show About?
An ABC comedy-drama, The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson, and Eric Winter. The story centers on John Nolan (Fillion), a small-town guy who, after a life-changing experience, decides to pursue his dream of being an LAPD officer. Now he’s the oldest rookie on the force, and the brass thinks he’s just having a midlife crisis. He’s got to keep up with his younger co-workers (not to mention young criminals) or he’ll risk lives. Maybe though, he can use the experience he’s gained with age, and the determination he has developed over the years, to make a real go of it. Either way, he’s got a secret weapon — his sense of humor.

Will ABC cancel or renew The Rookie for season two? The ratings haven’t been very good but I suspect the network will give this series every chance to succeed. My guess is that it will be cancelled but ABC could renew it and make some changes to try to improve the ratings. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Hey! The Rookie is a good view! Nathan Fillion is very believable as a sincere, older rookie fighting for a new direction for his life. Give us another season of enjoying the journey.!
I LOVE The Rookie! It is one of the best new shows I have seen in a very long time. I really like the morality of it—the way Nolan treats people—even people who are breaking the law. I love the “heart” of this show.

Please renew!!! My wife and I really enjoyed the show and can’t wait to watch more. Yes some of it seems over the top and makes me roll my eyes, but overall we enjoy the show, love the characters, like learning their back-story and find the show entertaining.
Needs to be renewed! Great show showing the benefits of age and experience.
Would love to see this renewed. We enjoyed each episode and really became ‘invested’ in the characters and story line. It’s a well written and directed drama; please bring it back for at least one more season.

Cancel! I barely enjoyed the Rookie (the “barely” was primarily due to Fillion, I’m a huge fan), but the season finale completely sucked! I’m a liberal and even I had a hard time swallowing the left wing bile they were trying to shove down our throats. Considered a homicide? Suspect? Tried for murder? Not allowed to talk to his partner? It was SO ridiculous, my mouth was hanging open in derision for most of the episode. Yeah certainly things are over the top real beats aren’t that entertaining but many of the things you listed aren’t one of them. In my training we were instructed not to talk to the first officer on scene except to state how many victims, do they need medical, and where and if there is a suspect on the loose if we are involved in a shooting. The first officer not involved in the shooting to come on scene becomes the investigating officer. Their job is to make sure the scene is safe take pictures of the officer who did the… Read more »
I like that you posted all this and that’s great.. but you do no this is a television series right. Everything you put in there hell why don’t we make it a movie like say 5 hours worth.

Love, love, love Nathan Fillion. Never missed Castle when it was on tv. However, this show is not a good fit for him. Him being a struggling newbie at 40+ years old is just not believable. I don’t like the supporting cast (except the trainee that can’t shoot and the training cop with the addict wife). This will probably be renewed this year (maybe), but it will definitely be cancelled by the end of season 2. Its a shame, and I’m a huge NF fan.
We totally enjoyed seeing Nathan Fillion in this role. Many of us in our mid years have had to rethink our carreers and had to become that “over aged newnie”. We hope there will be a season 2 of The Rookie.
I enjoy the show & see it developing even more. 3 episodes isn’t enough to judge a show!
Though the show seems to be good some of us with a law enforcement background know training officers don’t treat new cops that way. T O’s at there to train not abuse. This is not bashing its just fact from someone who knows. Writers get on the ball. Do some research for the show.
