A couple weeks ago, ABC officially cancelled their freshman TV show, FlashForward. Though it got off to a good start in the fall, the show’s ratings declined fairly steadily throughout the season. Like many ongoing serials that are end before their time, the last episode of FlashForward left many questions unanswered.
In the FlashForward series, the world’s population passes out unexpectedly for 137 seconds and has a vision of a future date. The series features a large ensemble cast that includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, Christine Woods, Genevieve Cortese, Dominic Monaghan, Gabrielle Union, Lee Thompson Young, Ryan Wynott, Barry Shabaka Henley, and Lennon Wynn.
Fans of the series have been trying to get the network to reverse its cancellation decision and are now planning an unusual demonstration on the show’s behalf. In addition to sending calendars, friendship bracelets (similar to the one Fiennes’ character wears), and letters to the network, they plan to stage blackouts in front of ABC network offices and affiliate stations across the country — for 137 seconds.
The pretend blackouts are planned for June 10th and will take place in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, and Atlanta. And, though they don’t have ABC network locations to target, fans in various countries around the world — Canada, England, Spain, Italy, Germany — are also planning similar demonstrations.
Ultimately, the networks care about ratings (something FlashForward was sorely lacking) but this demonstration is sure to get their attention. It’s highly unlikely that ABC will reverse its decision to cancel the series but hopefully they will be persuaded to give the series some sort of closure.
What do you think? Do you believe that ABC can be persuaded to bring FlashForward back for season two? Would you be satisfied with anything less? Perhaps a TV movie or an additional episode to wrap things up?
I loved this show “Flashforward”, it was very out of the box and had very interesting storylines. I really am disappointed that this show has been cancelled. I’ve been waiting all summer to see the new fall line up and see my favorite returning show Flashforward:((( very sad
I cannot believe that you canceled ” Flash Forward”.. I loved that show and we had a “group” over to watch it every week. Like some of the previous comments said , it does not pay to get invested in ABC shows.
I cannot understand why some really good shows that you have to watch every every every week to find out the next— should be cancelled. Especially without any type of closure. That is the whole idea behind a soap!! I think these shows that keep people coming back for just one more would hold on . Some of the shows on all the main networks are not worth using power for. What got me hooked on the weekly show with an ending was Harper Island. That was a great one with a totall suprrise ending and i loved it. Please… Read more »
This was one of my favorite shows! i got my whole family into it! Right after LOST i had nothing great to watch.. but this filled LOST’s shoes (somewhat) ans they SERIOUSLY need to wrap things up at the LEAST. PLEASE ABC!!
Hey ABC
I just heard that Flash Forward had been cancelled, because I was looking online to see when season 2 is scheduled to start. I never for a moment thought the show would be cancelled because it was SOOOO good.
The acting was great and the premise was intriguing and suspenseful.
So who is it making the decisions over there at ABC?
This was a really bad one indeed.
Bummer.
Il never watch another show on abc again. it was very disapointing that they had a good show that alot of people i new liked to watch. and then they just decide to cancle it and leave the crap they have on going. They changed the nite and the schedual all the time and left took breaks in the show instead of having it on everyweek so people couldnt get it in there schedual to watch. ABc sucks.
What is the deal with ratings anyway? If you own a good business, you are not going to turn a customer away because he doesn’t spend as much as another customer. Why can’t the networks get this through their stupid heads that there are fans of these shows and they should not leave them hanging. This is bad business.
I sooo agree with Jennifer Burton…..I don’t trust ABC anymore, they’ve cancelled all my favorite shows without an ending. Im sick of getting hooked on a sitcom and ABC just leaving me hanging. No more ABC sitcoms for me. If ABC can’t promise a full series with a beginning a middle and an End. I am no longer interested in being left hanging. This just proves that ABC is more worried about their ratings then their loyal viewers. They could at least end it quickly for the viewers that are watching it. But instead they choose to just halt it… Read more »
It’s just like “My own worst Enemy”, another show that had an excellent story line. Foxes, X-Files, made 7 seasons and it’s a cult classic and that show could have went on forever. Shame another network couldn’t pick it up, WHAT DID YOU SEE????
Why even watch what they make when we all know they’ll just cancell it?
I enjoyed the first few episodes of the series but ultimately the project died because the story went nowhere for the longest time. There were no characters that I cared about – were there any for you? THe english guy got on my nerves, the fbi characters had no side of them that I cared about – almost like cardboard cutouts. The lead was an alchoholic that had no personable traits that interested me. The lead’s wife knew that she shouldn’t interact with the pain in the ass british guy but still does. And then to top it all off,… Read more »

i think that flashforward should have been not been cancelled and v should have i hope that abc will change there mind abut the cancelation of flashforward cause that was one of my favorite show they left alot f questions unaswered like does he die or not and what happens next. hope they change there mind about the cancelation.
Just checked out ABC’s 2010 Fall Schedule…..very disappointing. Our household already has to live without “Lost” and “24”….now “Flashforward” too ? Grey’s Anatomy will be the ONLY ABC show that we will be watching this Fall. Looks like we will be checking out NBC’s Chuck, Chase, and Harry’s Law…..and CBS’s Hawaii-Five-O, Blue Bloods, and My Dad Says…..and finally Fox’s House, Lie to Me, Human Target, and Running Wilde….. If we were to make a list of some of our favorite shows of all time, most would probably be ABC shows……….looks like a 4th place finish for ABC going forward in… Read more »
I for one am sick and tired of ABC coming out with really good shows and then ******** up the scheduling and then cancelling the shows before they really get going. ABC is famous for this and something has to be done. With a show like Flashforward, you have to watch it every week in order not to be ‘Lost’…Breaking up the momentum by scheduling the show the way they did, then not recapping it beforehand like with ‘Lost’ no wonder they ‘Lost’ their viewers. I’m disappointed truly I am because that was an excellent replacement for ‘Lost’ which I… Read more »
