Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
The cancellation doesn’t surprise me. The show equated to sub par entertainment.
I tried to give it a chance but I had already seen Homeland which made State of Affairs look like what it was: a low budget, embarrassingly silly copy. It is so rare for a network to present an original idea.
This show had so much potential and could have really gone far if given the chance. This was such a “keep you on the edge of your seat” that I was beyond shocked when I saw it on the cancelled list. Well hopefully it gets picked up by Netflix or something in that source because I would totally follow.
This was one of 3 shows, that I looked forward to watching every week. With all of the repetitious police and hospital dramas, there is nothing worth turning on the TV for. Kathrine Heigl is an amazing actress, as well as her co stars and I too am extremely disappointed! Please bring this show back NBC!!
come on nbc, just gave you praises for giving undateable a real chance and now you kill another really good show. oh well, they giveth and then they taketh.
Mistake to cancel …. Loved the show….silly decision by NBC
DISAPPOINTED, I look forward every week for State of Affairs . Sad, Sad pls renwe
No! I would not cancel this show!! RENEW!!!!
please bring this show back, there is nothing on TV anymore, we just started to get to know all of the characters! Give it one more chance!
State of Affairs did not get a good enough time to be on the air! Please bring it back
Very sad about the news. Never knew State of Affairs was a huge disappointment for NBC and it never garnered much attention whether it was Katherine Heigl, the casting nor the series. I have a feeling that NBC’s biggest problem was to give Katherine Heigl a series and it never got the potential it deserves. Guess I’ll never want to hear the end for it. 🙁
No matter who owns NBC, it makes the same mistakes over the years — Stste of Affairs, — not just a KH show, but sn Alfre Woodward show! — , Friday Night Lights,
Medium, Boomtown, Southland, all the Law and Orders except the one. I do not trust this corporation.
State of Affairs is a great show you should reconceder about season 2 I never thought you would never renew it
This is disappointing. I really like the show and have from the very beginning. I to don’t understand why all these good shows are being cancelled while more networks are overloading us with idiotic reality television.
Wow I am really dying with all of the good shows being cancelled but keeping the crappy ones. I wish someone at NBC had a brain.
So So So DISAPPOINTED,this was my favorite show please bring it back.
