CBS has become known as the network for procedural TV shows. There’s no shortage of cops, lawyers, detectives, government agents, and doctors on the schedule — and they typically attract an older audience. So, it turned a few heads when the network picked up a show about a young female superhero — Supergirl. How’s the show doing? Will it be cancelled or survive to see a second season?
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, and Jeremy Jordan.
The series started out strong on October 26th and attracted a 3.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.96 million viewers. It no doubt benefitted greatly from having The Big Bang Theory as a lead-in.
The following week, Supergirl’s ratings dropped more than 30% — falling to a 2.19 in the demo with 8.87 million. In week three, the numbers fell again. Though the ratings have seen some minor bumps upward, they’ve been slipping lower overall. The eighth and final installment of 2015 hit a new series low with a 1.52 in the demo and 7.28 million.
While the recent ratings aren’t terrible, it’s very concerning that Supergirl’s numbers keep dropping. Will they fall low enough to see the series cancelled? That’s hard to tell right now but the current downward trend doesn’t bode well.
If the show does end up being cancelled by CBS, there’s a chance that Supergirl could move to The CW for season two. After all, the show is produced by Warner Bros. Television (Warner Bros. co-owns The CW) and the series’ creator is Greg Berlanti — the man who created three other DC Comics shows for The CW — Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Some would say that Supergirl should have ended up on The CW from the start. Perhaps a second season on the smaller network has been a back-up plan from the very start. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Supergirl series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Should it move to The CW? Would you watch it there?
Keep it
Keep!!
No this is crap I’m tired of this whole learning to be a Superhero thing when Kara came to earth she could fly and was a great fighter she took a giant robot shortly after waking up from her ship and she was never adopted by the Danvers family. Apparently as the season progresses she gets better but this is still crap. Yet another show that could have been awesome but sucked.
know a little something before you post..
Fred and Edna Danvers – The foster parents of pre-Crisis Supergirl. Shortly after they adopt Linda Lee from the Midvale orphanage, Superman reveals his cousin’s identity to them, so they are aware of her powers.
Dude, the show was NOT intended to be a direct replay of some comic book storyline that you’ve read. The show is based on the character from the comic books but the producers used the character to create a family friendly show that other people besides comic book nerds like you would watch.
Keep it.
This is the worst super Hero show on TV today. Bad casting and the writing horible. Let this show go and make room for something worth watching.
Yes it should return for second season it’s great
Watched from the beginning. While the “Supergirl” story is really a great story, I might go as far as to say on par with Superman’s, this version however is junk. They took a great cast of supporting characters and gutted them all for political correctness. It’s painful to watch for anyone that likes the Super-* franchise.
A full reboot on CW would be great, but fix the casting, fix the script, and do it right.
Greg,Greg,Greg……………..
A Superhero reacting to political-correctness in the Twenty-First Century is an element that is new and puts a little of the Real-World into the show. Trying to put bullies in their place while not looking like a super-bully can be tricky and that strikes a chord with non-super ‘heroes’ who do the same thing every day. And even when she’s not “super” she can manage to be a heck of a peace-keeper. Having the Martian Manhunter on board is also a nice touch. Even SEALS and Green Berets have a ‘911’ to call if they get in a fix. Now… Read more »
The show that you wish to create would only be watched by comic book nerds such as yourself. I certainly wouldn’t tune in.

Personally I couldn’t care less, I’m only interested in PERSON OF INTEREST news right now.
I’m a big POI guy myself but why in the world would you post that here?
I like Supergirl a lot but I think a move to CW would give the serve the show well.
Please keep the show Super Girl on tv I would like to watch it soon. I would love to watch this show but I don’t know what channel or what night this show is on. Please someone tell me when this show comes on and what channel. What time does this show come on.
Use Google.com to research anything you want to know. Just ask it a question. Anyway, it’s Monday’s at 8 PM on CBS. It returns in January.
Just cancel the show; political correctness/affirmative action has once again claimed another victim, ugh… In WHAT version (besides this one, obviously) is Jimmy Olsen black???
Stop changing the originals by replacing white characters with nonwhite characters and nonwhite characters with another color/race/gender (I’d be super p!ssed if they made another Blade movie with a white/Mexican/Asian/female Blade instead) AND start making original stories where you can make anyone any color/race/gender you want! (if you want to be a moron and simply call me racist…REREAD that last paragraph for ALL content…)
Why does the change of race of a supporting character bother you so much? That is why one would think you are a racist. These are make believe comic book characters. If the producers who finance the show see fit to change the race of a supporting character to make their TV show more appealing to today’s TV watching audience. It is their right to do so. It is really an insignificant move since the show is not based on any specific set of Supergirl comics. Via dramatic license, the producers have the right to cast that show as they… Read more »
I find both the actor and the role played by James Olsen to be both new and refreshing, i love supergirl’s James Olsen
I love the Superman series, whether it’s Superman, Supergirl, Lois and Clark or Smallville. Give this one a chance!!
KEEP IT !! I LOVE this show. Something to look forward to every week. The actors are great – the stories are fresh and interesting. I would be bummed if it does not get renewed.
