Though the girl of steel can fly high, The CW wants her to stay put — on the network. The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a third season. Season three will air as part of the 2017-18 season and will likely start airing in the fall.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
As expected, season two of Supergirl is way down in the ratings when compared to the first season which aired on CBS, a much bigger network. It’s currently averaging a 0.87 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.69 million viewers. Those numbers aren’t good enough for the Tiffany Network but they are good enough to make Supergirl the second-highest rated show on The CW. A third season renewal is no surprise.
The next original episode of season two airs on January 23rd.
The CW also renewed six other TV shows today — Arrow (season six), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (season three), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (season three), The Flash (season four), Jane the Virgin (season four), and Supernatural (season 13).
We already know that Reign and The Vampire Diaries are ending this season. No Tomorrow and Frequency are expected to be cancelled and The Originals’ future will likely be decided once the ratings come in for the upcoming fourth season, starting in March.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV show? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for a third season or, should it have been cancelled instead?
Not fit to watch
Please cancel this show. It has fallen from grace.
Im freaking out to know that there would be season3 i hope it last until season 10++++ i really love it melissa benoist is wonderful actress
.
This show need to be cancel
True DC fans love Supergirl.
I really enjoy this season is so amazing
The first season was terrible until the end. The second season started great with superman added. Now it has become a platform for liberal agendas. Seriously her sister doesn’t matter nor her love life. I wish it would end already before it destroys supergirl and comic book shows in general.
exactly how I feel, the show’s writers are getting away from the main character and pushing their own agendas. liked it better with Cat Grant and Alex as just a kick ass, super agent. The same thing happened with Legends of tomorrow. Way too many liberal agendas on these shows.
Honestly it’s one of my favorite shows right now. I enjoy how light-hearted it tends to be and for the most part have enjoyed the direction the CW has chosen to take it. As a fan of the Supergirl comics I appreciates both it’s differences and similarities (depending of course on which version you choose to read) I DO miss Cat, but Lena Luthor’s presence is almost enough to fill that void and I’m interested to see what direction her story line will lead given how differently she is presented from her comic counterpart. Overall I’m incredibly pleased that this… Read more »
keep it
I think they should have let it go after it’s dismal turn on CBS. The writing and story line have gone so far off base of the origin stories and it’s wavy history alone in the comics might have been a better indicator for a one or two shot mini instead of a drag along series. I’ve seen video clips of the Red Tornado encounter that look like seventies TV special effects and the story itself almost mimics a kinder school approach to viewers. My opinion. Drop the show and find a story that can compete with real TV.
I am most pleased Supergirl has been renewed for a 3RD season. I like the idea of Supergirl having memories of her young life on Krypton. It adds a different perspective than Superman who has no memories of his life on his home planet. Superman was still a baby upon his departure.
Try a comic series printed in the eighties called World of Krypton if your not familiar with it. The story follows Jorel and Lara before the destruction of the world. Seriously and sadly I think you’ll find it more entertaining than the Supergirl series.
I am pleased Supergirl has been renewed for a 3RD season. I like the aspect that Supergirl has memories of her young life on Kypton. Superman has no memories of time on his home planet. Cool show.
As retired teacher and educator, I would grade Supergirl with a A++!!
This show need to be cancel
