It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
Love the show, sad to see it go
Love the show
Loved the show and thought is was going well. Would have watched season 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9. Stargate lasted 11 season?
It’s a shame this show won’t be renewed. I found almost all the characters engaging and well played. The story initially struck me as a bit trite but became more interesting as time passed and additional plot/story points were introduced. Too bad this show wasn’t picked up by some other channel where it could have survived or been given a stronger commitment – this one joins Flashforward and Invasion in the ABC netherworld….
I would ABSOLUTELY love a second season of ‘The Crossing’!
Yes! I love this show.
This show should definitely been given a 2nd season. I love the cast and storylines. There seems to be a whole lot more where this show could go. Hope it gets picked up elsewhere. Please someone out there give it a 2nd chance!
I love Steve Zahn so that’s what brought me to the show. It started slow, but yes, I would continue watching. It’s just starting to get interesting!
Yes, I’ve watched every episode, and far prefer it to most other shows on TV today. Please reconsider and do season 2!
I guess we are relegated to watching the View, or Bachelorette, or some other garbage that they put out so the mindless can just stay as couch potatoes. I am a Sci-Fi fan for lots of years, and only a few shows like Star Hunter turn me off. Crossings has lots of plots and twists and turns that can give you something to bring you back. Hope they find a way to continue this show, but I doubt it. Unless we complain and make a fuss, it goes down as another good show gone. I also watch Timeless, and am… Read more »
From the first episode i was on the edge of mt seat. How can u cancell this incredible show. I am disgusted by all the political crap on tv. This show was one of the best ive seen in a long time. N i donr watch much tv. Get rid of the view its garbage. Rachel ray. Keep this on the air . keep on the chew. . i totally luv both. Please reconsider the crossing for at least another season.
I agree I have watched and think it is as good a show as is on right now.
Yes! I think it is a good show and hate to see it cancelled. I don’t think the show received much if any media attention. I’m sure if more previews were done, more people would be watching this. The Crossing has lot more to offer, then watching shows like the Bachelorette etc, ” puke”……who knows what the world will be like in 200 yrs. The way it’s going now, probably be a war torn world, not kissy, kissy, fairy tales with people trying to get attention. I hope it will be picked up by syfy or Netflix. ABC u disappoint… Read more »
No this is the worst show I have ever paid for, The story is stupid and so boring , after 8 eps I still don’t understand why this show is slow, too slow and boring, They refugees or crossings or any name are so quiet and still scared like they run away from Godzilla. They don’t want to cooperate with feds because of directors to slow the storyline and TV gets more money. The little kid is so annoying just keep yelling Mama Mama like a brat child and her mother is a monster who wants to kill or destroy… Read more »
YES I would’ve watched another season of this show. However, it doesn’t matter to the network as they already cancelled it. This show was really good and kept you wanting to know more as to why the people came back in time. But networks really don’t care about good storyline shows the execs only keep what they personally like and the heck with the rest of us.
Absolutely, I would continue to watch “The Crossing”. I found it riveting and eagerly looked forward to every episode. Perhaps the SyFy network might pick it up. It’s not over-the-top science fiction. It plays very realistically. It feels very possible. I really hope there is a way it can be saved by some network where it might be given a better chance.
