It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
I just loved the series and would watch season 2 in a heartbeat!
The crossing is a great show on time travel that I found very enjoyable. While Timeless is one I consider ranked above due to its different showings on timelines The Crossing is something unique which brings a different kind of time travel story. This is a show that deserves a continuation as once it was watched the first time I got hooked on it and looked forward to seeing it every monday alongside Supergirl.
BRING IT BACK!
I’m very disappointed it’s been canned. I understand the network seeing the declining ratings and, frankly, the early episodes were not good. But we’re about 9 episodes in and it’s really found its feet. The story has gotten very intriguing and at times feels like the story could go anywhere, somewhat like “Lost”. Think it would be a good fit for Netflix. Then again I felt the same way about “Designated Survivor”. If I had to choose, I’d prefer to see “The Crossing” saved.
I am hooked on the Crossing. It delivered a great plot scenario and featured Actor Steve Zahn, one of my favorites, which kept me watching. The more I watched, the more I’ve been hooked ever since. What other outlets can we contact to ask support for Season 2? If there is a season delay, I still believe the interest would still build even with a delayed comeback. Who will take this on? Netflix, HBO, Cinemax?
I thought it was one of the best, intriguing shows on television. Very sad to see it go! Would have loved to see a 2nd season.
Yes, I would have watched SEVERAL more seasons of The Crossing, as it is one of the finest science fiction premises and series ever broadcast. Rich text and acting afforded many opportunities for numerous storylines, character development, emotional commitments, and audience satisfaction. A truly unique and intriguing concept, as fascinating elements of ever developing science, humanity and time come together to deliver an enduring drama thriller. Not often does television offer an actual, ‘must-see’ series. I sincerely hope a broadcast, cable, or streaming outlet picks this series up.
I love the series i want another season
Absolutely, my favourite intelligent intriguing show on TV! Maybe they omit smart Canadians in their surveys. Do they survey how many folks are recording to watch later in the evening?
Can’t believe it’s being canned…hope Netflix or another channel picks it up!
I would love another season!!Or at least a mini series. I will not be watching anymore dramas on ABC, they hit the delete button too fast!
Loved the show-would watch another season
Please do a 2nd season of the Crossing …………….it’s a great show
Would have definitely watched a second season. Very sorry to see it cancelled.
The premise of this show was promising, but the producers failed to deliver. What doomed it was its too slow moving story line. I enjoy a story told over an arc of a season (or more), but even I was hoping the show would speed up. So likely many viewers tuned out over that. Hopefully the producers caught on early this show wouldn’t be renewed and produced a sufficient ending.
LOVE THIS SHOW, SORRY TO SEE IT GO. REALLY UNHAPPY WITH ABC, FIRST ROSEANNE AND NOW THIS. DOEN’T BODE WELL FOR THEM.
ABC does not realize that that the fans of the show were involved with what was going to happen to the refugees. That is why there were so many families watching itm. There are over 624 comments on TVLine with many viewers. They are upset. ABC is now saying the viewers are down. You have ruined the joy of watching the show. ABC just does not get it. Do you think they have reviewed their future with the viewers. Then they say season finale on Saturday night June 9th not series finale. Which is it. Shame on you ABC. You… Read more »
