The Expanse is the latest hit on SyFy, and it is already set for a second season. One of the executive producers of the series, Naren Shankar, spoke about the future of the series with Assignment X, and there is no end to the series in sight, according to the EP.
The Expanse is based on a series of books, which currently consists of five novels and four novellas. This means that fans could see at least five seasons of the SyFy series.
He said:
“That’s not going to be easy to do, because [five novels and four novellas have so far] been published. They’re planning on writing nine [novels total]. They have a big story to tell, it takes a lot of time to actually go through it. We are not rushing through these books by any stretch of the imagination. The nice thing about television is, you get to spend time and live with people and learn these characters. The books move at a crazy fast pace in terms of plot and event. We actually had to slow it down a little bit, just so you could spend time with the characters and get to know the people on the show.”
Did you watch the first season of The Expanse on SyFy? Do you want the series to continue for at least five seasons and beyond? Tell us what you think.
As a fan of Leviathan Wakes, I was a bit underwhelmed by the series. The casting and cinematography were well done, but the writing was all over the place. Some decisions–like wasting half an episode on that confusing, boring, and unnecessary “butcher” flashback–were pure amateur hour. I certainly hope lessons are learned for future seasons.
Absolutely love the show, it’s the most interesting thing to come along in a while and for my money the best and most interesting sci-fi series of the last 10 years both in terms of characters and plot as well as realism. Love it! I really hope it has a future as it would be a tremendous shame to lose it.
I think we can all agree the show as significantly better than we could have imagined. I cant wait for season 2, seems to me though that whatever chad coleman touches does well these days. The walking dead, this, and now http://treadwater.tv all are amazing. Gonna hold of on the books for now though.
Loved the show! Little slow to build at first, but when I really like characters, I dont mind slow. Then the finale was much faster paced and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I kinda hope that the future years have more of the fast pace, but I will keep watching it regardless of how they do it. Now the countdown starts to 12 Monkeys…and then Killjoys and Dark Matter in the summer. Loving the SyFy channel this past year!
I absolutely Love the series. I find it a totally believable extrapolation of Mankinds future, and think it is well done . I like the subtle background stuff that tells the story and ties our present to the future, like New York City being walled up against rising sea levels and Anchorage being an Island.
I’ve read the books presently out. The show is excellent and though it doesn’t follow the series *exactly* it does a great job of telling the same story. There’s no doubt this is going to be a great show. I especially like the hard science and not the pseudo science of star-trek. It has a dark realism that has long been missing in TV Sci-Fi. I can hardly wait for what I already know is coming… Ohhhhhh Yeahhhhh.
The Expanse give me a reason to watch Syfy. This is the ONLY reasonably hard sci-fi series on production. No faster-than-light, telepathic, mind-wave control bs. The rest of Syfy it is “fantasy”, not science fiction. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if series survives.
Season 1 finale had only .555 Million views. Even if you use the argument that a lot of fans watch this online and therefore those numbers don’t show on the Nielsen ratings, the season closed on the almost lowest figures just comparing the TV viewership of each episode. How that translates into a ‘Showrunner Foresees at Least Five Seasons’ quote strikes me as more than a little optimistic. The line on ‘get to know the people on the show’ was worth a laugh. I have a better recollection of the 10 year old cast of characters of BSG than I… Read more »
Really? You could tell the difference between all the various versions of the blond, and the asian, and the black dude and the squirrely guy? I couldn’t then, and I sure can’t now. The Expanse is just getting started. I love the creepy atmosphere, the multiracial diversity and the gender freedom of it all. Way better than that Sense8 thing that Netflix tries to peddle. Sign me up for all 5 seasons, if not more.
You mean crappy not creepy. Because if you think this is science-fiction you’re wrong it is fantasy with high violent levels wish you guys would understand that everybody can understand. The difference.
