The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots just kicked off on OWN this week. While the series hasn’t been cancelled, it seems like the Tyler Perry drama is coming to an end in 2021 and won’t have a ninth season.
Airing on Tuesday nights, The Haves and the Have Nots stars John Schneider, Tika Sumpter, Angela Robinson, Renee Lawless, Crystal Fox, Peter Parros, Tyler Lepley, Gavin Houston, and Aaron O’Connell. The drama centers on the complicated dynamic between the Cryer, Harrington, and Young families of Savannah, Georgia. In season eight of this drama series, Judge Cryer (Schneider) and his rich friends are all finding out what happens when personal flaws go unchecked. Karma has not been kind to the elite one-percenters.
The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots currently averages a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 873,000 viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 60% in the demo and down by 34% in viewership. The series was once the cable channel’s highest-rated show but the premiere’s numbers put it much closer to the bottom of the list. Is it time for the show to end?
New York Post recently ran a profile about Robinson under the title “Haves and Have Nots star breaks down its final season”. The article goes on to confirms that the series is ending by noting “It kicks off its final season Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the cable network.” and “Robinson tells fans to expect the final season of The Haves and Have Nots to be an emotional rollercoaster.”
But wait, hasn’t the cast already filmed a ninth season? Maybe not.
In 2019, Houston said that he was about to start filming the ninth season of the series. The season lengths for this series have been very inconsistent — ranging from nine to 44 episodes a season — so, OWN could have changed their plans about how the episodes would be grouped.
OWN has been quiet about the show’s immediate future. However, Perry’s other shows on the channel have already ended. In 2017, Perry signed a deal to produce 90 episodes of television each year for ViacomCBS outlets (including BET and BET+) so that’s been keeping him very busy.
It’s unclear how many episodes in season eight but hopefully, The Haves and the Have Nots will have a satisfying conclusion.

Everyone loves the show why wouldn’t you do a season 9 hell its nothing else to watch on Tuesday nights. So if your not doing another season put on someone everyone can enjoy once again.

I love the THAHN, but I haven’t seen this Season since I stopped my Cable subscription. Candice is one of the Best Actress and Veronica is really playing her part with her Crazy ways. I would hate to see them go ogf air.

Why are you taking off the real life shows? Ratings are one thing but if you don’t promote and do pop ups through other drama venues people will forget it. We have been checking every week for the next series. We went further to engage family and friends to checkout the series. It is a great medium for families and character seeking individuals. Love every character on the set. Please forge ahead with season nine and promote its plot and goal of each series on regular cable and regular tv platforms.

I love the show I wish it could go on ,I just started watching season 8
The show started out great! Then it got worst with repeating lines, wasting time and bad acting. Then the story line was all over the place. Just too much. Glad it’s ending.
I think the reason it lost the audience which I didn’t care for either was mom and son in a jail cell across from one another. Using the toilet in front of each other? Only on the HAHN. I always watched. Never missed and episode but I admit I got real tired of that part of the series. I wanted a change and hoped it would come with the new season. What producer would want a show to end on a bad note like this? THHN became painful to watch just like ILYIW!! I admire Perry for bringing us these shows but there are those of us who also expect quality scripts too. If Perry doesn’t hire some writers The Paynes will be gone too. Assisted Living is hanging by a viewing thread as well. Terrible writing. The original Paynes was excellent writing. Not this time around.
I have had this discussion with all my friends for the last three weeks. I agree whole heartedly. I am so happy people like us care enough to speak on what is valid in our world of entertainment . I love Mr. Perry as well. However no one can do all things well. You have to know when to fold. The writing in the end was and is now the problem. The story line became boring and unrealistic. Veronica’s part was the worst. No one get’s away all the time. Sorry to be blunt but, give your audience some credit.
