The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots just kicked off on OWN this week. While the series hasn’t been cancelled, it seems like the Tyler Perry drama is coming to an end in 2021 and won’t have a ninth season.
Airing on Tuesday nights, The Haves and the Have Nots stars John Schneider, Tika Sumpter, Angela Robinson, Renee Lawless, Crystal Fox, Peter Parros, Tyler Lepley, Gavin Houston, and Aaron O’Connell. The drama centers on the complicated dynamic between the Cryer, Harrington, and Young families of Savannah, Georgia. In season eight of this drama series, Judge Cryer (Schneider) and his rich friends are all finding out what happens when personal flaws go unchecked. Karma has not been kind to the elite one-percenters.
The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots currently averages a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 873,000 viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 60% in the demo and down by 34% in viewership. The series was once the cable channel’s highest-rated show but the premiere’s numbers put it much closer to the bottom of the list. Is it time for the show to end?
New York Post recently ran a profile about Robinson under the title “Haves and Have Nots star breaks down its final season”. The article goes on to confirms that the series is ending by noting “It kicks off its final season Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the cable network.” and “Robinson tells fans to expect the final season of The Haves and Have Nots to be an emotional rollercoaster.”
But wait, hasn’t the cast already filmed a ninth season? Maybe not.
In 2019, Houston said that he was about to start filming the ninth season of the series. The season lengths for this series have been very inconsistent — ranging from nine to 44 episodes a season — so, OWN could have changed their plans about how the episodes would be grouped.
OWN has been quiet about the show’s immediate future. However, Perry’s other shows on the channel have already ended. In 2017, Perry signed a deal to produce 90 episodes of television each year for ViacomCBS outlets (including BET and BET+) so that’s been keeping him very busy.
It’s unclear how many episodes in season eight but hopefully, The Haves and the Have Nots will have a satisfying conclusion.

This show is the type of show that needs to just stay on because it’s just that good. It’s too bad that today it’s all about the money instead of it being about good work/good television. Look at shows like the Knight Rider and General Hospital, Wonder Woman, and Dallas. Those shows stay on for years and years and years, just because they were really just great television shows. I have been an avid fan since the start. The acting has never been the greatest. Some gave gotten better but not much. So its no surprise the ratings have dropped. So yes the show has run its course due to storylines are all over the place with no apparent meaning. There are better dramas to watch now with top notch acting. So on that note try to bring closure and go out with a bang!
The reduced viewership could possibly be caused by the longer delays between seasons. This series is delayed much longer than most shows. During the hiatus other shows take your spot….please fix this!
I think it’s a damn shame that he would do this again. He did the same with If Loving You Is Wrong. Mr. Perry why you keep doing this? It’s awful. Have and Have Nots is really a good show,
Please don’t take the haves and the have nots all we don’t have that many black movies as it is my appreciate Tyler Perry for everything he does I will miss the haves and have nots if we don’t have the ninth series
I love the Haves and Have Nots, I really hope there is a season 9, I just think season 8 came up sooner than the next season usually does and people didnt realize, i love that it came sooner and hopefully the outcome on episode 2 will be outstanding so we can have the show continue
I think the show has run its course, the episode have move very slowly and there’s no action. Great actors and actress. Time to put the show to rest.
Yes it’s time for the have and have not to end. Candance need to go to jail. Veronica should be saved by saying someone kidnapped the real Veronica and she should return to David. Benny need to be killed off along with the Kryer son. Catherine and her husband should be reunited. No matter how it ends it needs to end. It had a good run but it’s time to go.
I love the show. But when one series ends, there is a big gap in there and it’s really hard to get back into the show because you forgot really what happen in the last show.
One of the WORST shows on TV. Not sure which is worse, the acting or the storyline.
