The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots just kicked off on OWN this week. While the series hasn’t been cancelled, it seems like the Tyler Perry drama is coming to an end in 2021 and won’t have a ninth season.
Airing on Tuesday nights, The Haves and the Have Nots stars John Schneider, Tika Sumpter, Angela Robinson, Renee Lawless, Crystal Fox, Peter Parros, Tyler Lepley, Gavin Houston, and Aaron O’Connell. The drama centers on the complicated dynamic between the Cryer, Harrington, and Young families of Savannah, Georgia. In season eight of this drama series, Judge Cryer (Schneider) and his rich friends are all finding out what happens when personal flaws go unchecked. Karma has not been kind to the elite one-percenters.
The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots currently averages a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 873,000 viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 60% in the demo and down by 34% in viewership. The series was once the cable channel’s highest-rated show but the premiere’s numbers put it much closer to the bottom of the list. Is it time for the show to end?
New York Post recently ran a profile about Robinson under the title “Haves and Have Nots star breaks down its final season”. The article goes on to confirms that the series is ending by noting “It kicks off its final season Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the cable network.” and “Robinson tells fans to expect the final season of The Haves and Have Nots to be an emotional rollercoaster.”
But wait, hasn’t the cast already filmed a ninth season? Maybe not.
In 2019, Houston said that he was about to start filming the ninth season of the series. The season lengths for this series have been very inconsistent — ranging from nine to 44 episodes a season — so, OWN could have changed their plans about how the episodes would be grouped.
OWN has been quiet about the show’s immediate future. However, Perry’s other shows on the channel have already ended. In 2017, Perry signed a deal to produce 90 episodes of television each year for ViacomCBS outlets (including BET and BET+) so that’s been keeping him very busy.
It’s unclear how many episodes in season eight but hopefully, The Haves and the Have Nots will have a satisfying conclusion.

Love Perrys shows would hate to see the haves leave. But they need to do something with Veronica.
Also my all-time favorite Greenleaf oh my God loved it loved it loved it. Queen sugar I just couldn’t get enough of it bring those beautiful quality programs back don’t let them just die it’s too much material. Too Many real life stories. I remember when Tyler first hit the screens with his plays oh, and he said you all think this is something you just wait. I have been watching it since the very beginning… I am beyond belief that the show will be ending. I hope that the ending is one I will never forget and Veronica gets what she deserves!!!!
Please keep have and the have nots on tv. I’m also sorry that tyler Perry’s other shows don’t come on anymore All of Tyler Perry’s shows was the best thing own had to offer and also greenleaf was very good. I THINK ALL TYLER’S SHOWS SHOULD MOVE TO REGULAR CABLE CHANNEL BET.
I really enjoy the show but those long unpredictable breaks between seasons causes me to lose interest.The clip hangers are just to long a wait.
I’d like to know why you would have something that’s really good minus deaths, too many too often otherwise great storylines and if they could live long enough to so can and one could enjoy it longer they would be great and that you would have hundreds of stories to tell you’d be celebrating season 200. Love all of Tyler Perry shows please keep the Haves and have Nots
I absolutely love this show and really wish it didn’t have to end. I actually like to allow 2-3 weeks to pass by, so that I can watch the episodes back to back. I’m never disappointed. I surely hope the ending of this series is reconsidered. Please
Terrible writing. Repetitive scenes. People in jail 3 seasons with no bed, no hearing. This show became unrealistic. Foolish series.
Goodbye and good riddens. The actors did there best as the silly scripts provided.
I don’t feel the main reason is people not watching the show i believe cable is so high in areas many people can not afford to pay over $100 for cable and not get what they want. Especially adding OWN and other networks the price goes up.
I love this show.. it has atleast one good season more left. Please don’t end it yet.
Haven’t watched it in two years
I think ending this show would be a grave mistake on Tyler Perry’s part. This has been the best soap opera with a perfect blend of ethnicities, drama, power and so much more. By the way, where and when was there a survey or a vote taken? I believe we as the viewers should have the final say Mr. Perry. If you need some ideas give me a call. I’ve watched this show since day1 but this season.. I dont quite know the correct words.im a huge tyler perry fan for many yrs..LOVED this show til this season.
I still love “The Have and Have Nots” i am that there will be no ninth season, to me that means Mr. Perry has something else in the works. Whatever it is i know it will be off the chain, always waiting and wanting more.
Please don’t take the show off . I love to watch The have and the have not. Great show.
