This Is Us is currently airing its fifth season on NBC, and fans will have fewer episodes than expected before the season finale airs on May 25th. Only 16 episodes of the family drama will be produced this season.
Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Hannah Zeile, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Lonnie Chavis, Eris Baker, and Faithe Herman star in the NBC drama which follows the Pearson family from the time parents Jack and Rebecca Pearson (Ventimiglia and Moore) meet through the lives of the three Pearson children.
In 2019, NBC renewed the drama for three seasons of 18 episodes each for seasons four, five, and six.
Per Entertainment Weekly, the reason there will be fewer installments is the pandemic. Several other series have also faced similar shortened seasons due to shutdowns and the additional time it takes for COVID-19 protocols. It is not yet known if two additional episodes will be added to next season’s order.
This Is Us will return with the three remaining episodes of the fifth season on May 11th.

This has been a tough season both with the storyline and dealing with Covid. I hope the writers can keep what they wanted to say from this season and bring it over to next season. My wife and I consider it one of the best shows ever. the writing and the cast are fantastic.
This article is confusing- it sounds like the show is going off the air, but I think you’re only talking about the SEASON finale, not the SERIES finale, right? Which is correct?

I can understand with the pandemic it makes it difficult for everyone. At the same time I’m disappointed. We’ve faced so much in our daily lives, being able to have TV shows that lift us up and take out minds off the problems has helped.
I absolutely love love love this show.. I am upset by the shortened season but I understand the impact this pandemic has had on the world. As long as it’s coming back for a 6th season I’ll have to deal with it!
Amazing aeries. So worth my my limited TV viewing time. I’ll take whatever episodes they can offer and look forward to next season. Bravo to the talented artists, directors, writers, producers who make top notch material. I’ll be sad when this one ends.
Great series. COVID has/will disrupt many things. The series will carry on.

Exactly! This is us, sex and the city, Shameless, divorce, Mike & Molly, breaking Bad, better call saul, 6 feet under… All these great shows leaving or left. So sad!

This season has been fairly intense with little of the joy they usually inserted. It was a Covid downer like the real world. However we needed some relief! So I won’t be upset over ending this season short. Let’s hope they add on two episodes next year & they get back to living life with some of the good times being shown.
Why not try to broadcast it with less repeats & preemptions, & when done, then just start a new series? The way they have aired it this season has been disgraceful & can’t be good for it!
I LOVE This is Us. It’s my one and I my must-see show… When it’s actually on! I get the Covid issues, but NBC needs to put it on air and leave it alone! No shortened season.
