Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I would rather see Mercy leave and leave trauma on the air,.
Again the networks, like much of this country wants to instant success. No time to let something grow and find a spot in the sun. Give it chance to find its spot. The old “what have you done for me lately”. Many excellent shows would never have had the success they had if not given a chance to grow.
I can’t believe you are cancelling this show. Who on earth makes these decisions……… I finally find a terrific show that both Ray and I enjoy and it is cancelled. Hopefully another station will be smarter than you and pick it up.
Why would they cancel trauma, that show is better than other shows on the air. I was so angry to hear that it was cancelled. Will there be any more episodes to finish the series or is it just over?
Trauma was an awsome show….so tired of good shows being cancelled so they can add some more stupid reality shows. Lets get with the Program already….
I love this show. Networks always cancel the good ones and so unexpectedly. This is why I have no network loyalty. Sorry to see a great cast loose out. boo, hiss.
They doomed this show from the get go by putting it in a time slot to compete with MNF and House. You don’t put a brand new show up against the #1 show on TV and football and expect it to go straight to #1. This was an awesome show and for once I actually watched NBC. Now I guess I have no reason to watch any of this stations shows as they will always tank and cancel the good ones before they ever get a chance to get off the ground.
Trauma was the BEST new show out there. I knew NBC would cancell because they always cancell the best shows. I’ve seen them all & really would like NBC to continue!
Trauma was a remarkable show, they did a great job. The actors worked so hard side by side with real life EMT’s and paramedics to learn all they did. The show was very well done, no over the top, to the point; it portrayed what it is like to work day in and day out as as emergency medical team. I understand it took a lot of funds to make each show but NBC could have made cut backs, asked the actors to take a reduction in pay and keep the show on the air. I will truly miss it,… Read more »
Does anyone know when the series finale will be? I hope I didn’t miss it!
I am angry that Trauma was canceled without any notice. It was a great show. I looked forward to it. When will the executives at the Networks ever get it right?
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!
I am so upset this show was canceled. I would do everything I could to rush home on Monday nights to watch Trauma. My favorite show this last season. I was enjoying it a lot more than Mercy. Wish they would reconsider.
I am extreamly upset they canceled it. I dont have actual tv streaming so i watch everything online. This was one of the only REAL shows (not reality) that i have been able to get online that i really enjoyed. I am disappointed NBC.
Trauma was a wonderful show – exciting, fun, loved Rabbit!! Besides it showed my hometown so beautifully, now live in Mass. and miss SF a lot – bring “Trauma” back!!
I loved “Trauma”! It was such a great show! I am so dissappointed that it’s been cancelled! It seems that everytime I fall in love with a show, it’s cancelled soon after!
