What’s in store for American Crime? Star Felicity Huffman recently discussed the future of the ABC TV series, Deadline reports.
Season three of the anthology drama follows a father who travels illegally from Mexico to the U.S. in search of his missing son. The cast includes Regina King, Connor Jessup, Richard Cabral, and Benito Martinez.
During a recent panel, Huffman said she’s proud of American Crime even if ABC doesn’t renew it for a fourth season:
If there isn’t a Season 4, I’m so honored that this is our last season. I think ABC has changed the face of network TV and what network TV can do. … They are beyond what cable can do. Sometimes those things have a short shelf life, but the ripple effect is great.”
Since its premiere in March, season three has not performed well in the ratings. Currently, the season is averaging a .40 rating in the 18-49 demo and 1.942 million viewers, making it ABC’s lowest-rated seres for the 2016-2017 season.
What do you think? Do you watch American Crime? Do you want a fourth season?
I love this show. It deals with the real issues of our time and gives us a little inside as to the ‘why and how’ some issues get out of control, real life issues that go on everyday. Perhaps there should be more advertising explaining the show to some people, even testimonials. It’s a great show — love Felicity, Regina and others! I hope they keep it on the air. I’m looking forward to season 4.
I absolutely love this show. It is topical, thought provoking, well written, and has a stellar cast. This show makes you want to find out more about the world around you, not just be spoon fed one particular version of a scenario. The storylines are multifaceted and refreshingly unbiased. I hope that it is renewed.
I like the series a lot. But nobody else in the house wants to watch it but me. so I always have to look at it on demand at a later date. It’s not exactly a Sunday (family night) program. I wish there was a way it could develop higher ratings without losing the quality.
I’d be proud of it if I was getting paid good money too. The ratings STINK! if the future of TV is to renew shows with terribly low ratings, then it is time to start giving people at the Networks terribly low pay because they aren’t coming up with programming that gets ratings. Better yet, fire them.
You’re right, thoughtful and nuanced dramas of this caliber don’t belong on cable. Netflix or Amazon needs to pick this show up.
I love the raw underside of American civilization that is shown to have many attributes that few are willing to talk about openly. They exist! Thank you for this show!!!!
