Get ready to see old home made new again on television. Bargain Mansions will overhaul old homes in Kansas City. The new series will premiere in November.
DIY revealed more about this new series in a press release. Check that out below.
“Home renovator Tamara Day transforms Kansas City’s forgotten centuries-old properties into spacious dream homes on DIY Network’s newest series Bargain Mansions. Premiering Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the 12-episode series showcases Tamara as she scoops up rundown mansions for a fraction of their worth, uncovers distinctive features hidden by years of decay and incorporates the modern amenities that will attract buyers.
“These large old homes just need a little more love to bring them back to their former glory,” said Tamara. “Restoring homes is my passion and I’m grateful it’s my job too.”
In each episode, Tamara, a mother of four, teams up with her own father and mentor, Ward, as she takes on challenges common to older homes, including water damage and cracked foundations. She also redesigns unusual layouts to create desirable open-concept spaces. With strict timelines and budgets in place, Tamara saves and restores the authentic features such as pocket doors, stately staircases and exposed brick walls of these historic properties. In addition to original charm, the finished homes boast refreshed exteriors, gorgeous kitchens and spa-like bathrooms.

I just watched the show… not sure who gave this woman a degree in interior design but she’s absolutely awful…. if you are into 80’s Tony Montana home design then it’s for you!!! She’s not good at all!
I just watched a number of “Bargain Mansion” Shows. Nothing matches. Just a lot of buzz words. Don’t waste your time.
Tamara destroy the charm of EVERY old home she touches. Truly awful.
If you’ve seen rehab addict this is a carbon copy(one exception Nicole knows what she’s doing) down to a parent helping, blond hair and dressing up at the end. Do you remember when diy had actual woodworking shows? Craft shows would be nice along with sewing shows you know like do it yourself? Instead we get shows redoing houses, building houses, tree houses, off grid, on grid, Alaska etc. Rename the channel the redo and build channel cause diy is not just about houses. Think public tv on saturday morning thats a good mix of diy.
We truly enjoyed this unique show and would love to see it continue
Love this show these homes are beautiful and deserve to be saved, great job Tamara!
This is my new favorite show.
I enjoy this show and admire the fact that Tamara is willing to tackle some hard jobs. However one of my biggest pet peeves on all home remodeling shows is watching people use cordless screw guns to hang drywall. You need to use an electric drywall screw gun. Using the wrong screw gun and tip causes 90% of the screws to ‘pop’ through the finished drywall after only a few years. It all looks great for a few months, or even a year, but after that comes the big NOPE. Inexperienced remodelers should be required to hang a notice at… Read more »
Love the show. She does a great job.
This show does Kansas City up great! She takes these older Mansions and puts that up to date spin on them that the newer generations love. Keep up the show! As we say in Missouri “Show-Me”.
I have to agree with the other lady’s. She has no idea what she is doing to these old houses. People want these old houses put back to the original style with modern touches. It has broke my heart to see some of things nags she has done to these houses. But do love the idea of a show here in Kansas City. We have some the prettiest old houses here. I have been in a lot of these old houses. And I would love to nothing more than to see these house brought back.
She has no idea what design is. Big ugly art work in a 1905 colonial..No. what sh does is so ugly anyone could do better.Terrible
I am glad she saved this house, but her knowledge of old house revival sucks. First, the house is late Colonial revival, not craftsman.
Next, she painted, “black”, lovely woodwork and box beam ceiling boards. And put in “industrial age lighting” in the old house.
She needs to educate herself in old houses.
Her enthusiasm is nice but what she is doing beyond structuarally is just not complimentary to the homes age. Get an expert or 2 to advise her.
My sentiments EXACTLY Marsha Schiller! I went into convulsions when I saw her paint 100 year old woodwork. NO ONE who knows any better DOES THAT. There are ways to renovate old homes for modern living without tearing out walls and destroying everything that makes them so special. Hated all of the tacky lighting and new tile work around the original fireplaces also. Unless she gets expert help, I hope this ends with just the 6 houses she has destroyed so far. We can only hope.
I agree ! Rehab addict does a much better job. So much of the character of the bargain mansion is lost on this program. Too much modernization, moving walls, etc. Some definitely needs to be done but the effect is a lost history.
I agree with all the above posts. Granted she’s not as bad as other TV “designer/renovators” but this love affair with open concept design has to stop when it comes to these historic homes. They just look cookie cutter after a while.
