Bittersweet news for BattleBots fans. It seems ABC has cancelled BattleBots after two seasons, but all 16 episodes of the TV show are coming to the Science Channel.
In 2015, ABC revived the competition show, which pits homemade robots against each other. The show previously aired on Comedy Central but was cancelled after five seasons in 2002.
Now, it looks like BattleBots has been axed once again. Recently, ABC removed the show from its list of current reality programming—a sure sign the show has been cancelled. However, fans lookin’ for a fix will be able to see both seasons of the revived series on Science Channel beginning July 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

(New York) – Let the robot shrapnel fly. Science Channel has licensed the off-network cable rights to air 16 episodes of ABC’s epic robot-fighting series BattleBots. BattleBots features the biggest, baddest, strongest, and fastest next-generation robots as they duke it out to become champions of an intense, fast-paced single elimination tournament. BattleBots premieres Wednesday, July 12 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel.
Each robot rumble match consists of two robots competing in a single three-minute bout in which the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the three-minute battle, the panel of judges will declare a victor to move on in the tournament.
Each episode of BattleBots highlights the design and build of each robot, bot builder backstories, and their pursuit of the BattleBot championship. With only one weight class, homemade robots of many varieties with a huge variety of deadly weapons go head-to-head, all captured by state-of-the-art onboard technology and cameras to enhance viewing and provide combat analytics.
BattleBots is hosted by ESPN’S Samantha Ponder. She is joined for the play-by-play by Chris Rose of MLB Network and NFL Network, color-commentary is provided by ex-MMA fighter Kenny Florian, Alison Haislip (G4’s Attack of the Show) is the sideline reporter and Faruq Tauheed is ring announcer. Judging the battles are former BattleBots competitor and special effects artist Fon Davis, the face of “Nerdist” Jessica Chobot and a special guest judge for each round of the competition.
BattleBots is a reimagined take on the killer robot combat sport from Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original BattleBots franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson. Executive producers are Lloyd Braun, Chris Cowan, Edward P. Roski (Trey), Greg Munson and Aaron Catling.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of BattleBots? Are you sad ABC has cancelled the show?
Bring it back.
Such a shame — it’s such a great show and competition that can inspire kids to develop interests in robotics, science, computers, and math in such a creative way!
Who would cancel such an outstanding show? Obviously someone lacking vision. And just because I dated one of the executive producer’s sisters in college doesn’t mean I’m bias either…
LOL I needed that! after this bad news.
I can’t believe they cancelled battlebots.. one of best and most innovative shows ever. We were even going to build a bot to enter in 2018! Science Channel PLease pick this show up! ABC you suck!
My son and I loved to watch this show. We are two robot geeks and would always discuss what each contender did wrong and how to improve the robot. This show got him into robot competitions at school. What a shame.
Too bad it won’t be continued. It is definitely something different to watch. It would have been a little bit better if they had weight classes and some actual prize money. I think the show gets younger minds interested in robotics and is worth the effort to keep it on Science Channel.
great show AND SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED
It seems the old guard networks are either incapable of maintaining intelligent programming or have no interest in maintaining a thinking audience. I do hope the Science Channel goes ahead with season 3.
Great show please bring battlebots back
Great show!! Please bring it BACK!
Hey ABC: Battle bots has been the *ONLY* live /on air syndicated tv I’ve watched since season 1 started showing. If you want viewers, you’re going to have to dare to be different on a show or two.
I’ve watched every episode of BB I could find. Totally love it, but apparently, once again, I’m in the minority. I guess people would rather watch trash like “Housewives” and “Kardashians”. Yuck.
abc has once again cancelled a great show. they do this so many times and that is why I as will so many others I’ve spoken to, will stop watching their shows. grow up people and listen to the viewers.
Once again another great show is cancelled because people have what is know as limited brain function or it’s because show like boy band and American idol are not needed but it seems like very major network once some sort of singing competition cause to the big heads at ABC it’s the only way to compete with other networks. I ask you the people who watch TV why is it that good shows like Battlebots and others get canned but singing and dancing shows are allowed to stay on the air when if you want to see dancing go watch… Read more »
I love Battlebots! It makes me curious about the science of creating robots, and I appreciate the effort that goes into creating them. It was a show with just a few episodes, why can’t they bring it back? Based upon the crowds at the competition, it would seem there is an audience for it. It would not seem that it would cost much to produce since it is a matter of recording a competition already in place. Too bad we can’t convince television producers something actually educational AND entertaining isn’t worth bringing to television.
